I am heading down to Mardi Gras this year with my paintball team. there is a large national tournament happening during the festival. I was wondering if any of you were going, and if you have any favorite plaves to check out. I wont have a ton of time because of the tournament, but I would love to know what your your collective "Must sees"

    peace

You must drink a hurricane at Pat O'Brien's in the French Quarter, and you must go see some music at Tipitina's in the Garden District.

It's a shame you'll be short on time.

I'd advise you to spend all of your free time in the French Quarter/Downtown area. Definitely go to Pat O'Brien's. Even if you'd rather not drink there's a great piano bar inside. If you do enjoy drinking have a Hand Grenade from the Tropical Isle. There's also a couple of other places to get them, but the names aren't coming to mind. Just stay on Bourbon Street if you're looking to get tanked. If you enjoy gambling or have an appreciation for fine casinos then got to Harrah's which is by the river off of Canal Street. There's absolutely no way you can miss it. Also by the river is Cafe du Monde and the Imax theatre.

New Orleans is perhaps my most favorite city in all of the country.

ok guys I know all of that stuff, but i want to know what unique things that New Yorkers like me would never have the time to find, but one of you may have stubbled across.

I will be there for 5 days, but the tournament is a dawn till dusk thing for 3 of them. give me the scoup. I know im gonna deing hang grenades, and hurricanes, I will likely blow a c note at the casino, but that will only take 10 mins [IMG] gimme more dirt

Have a mufalletta at the Central Grocery.

    Have a po-boy at Johnnie's Po-Boys.

Both are located in the French Quarter.

Frank the wife and I were in O'leans the week before Christmas. Now I don't know how true the rumor is, but we heard gossip that Harrah's was closing.

Don't know if its true or not. They just opened a new one in Lake Charles (real close for you Houston folk).

    As far as food.

We ate at Emeril's (Emeril Lagasse's restaurant) and it was amazing (we also dropped about $200 on dinner). So I guess it depends on how much you want to spend.

Court of Two Sisters if your into brunch and jazz

Just walk the streets, you'll find something to do (or it will find you).

Seems that business wasn't as good as projected. At least that's what I heard.

I could be totally wrong. I'm not much into gambling so I don't really follow these sort of things.

But we did walk and drive by there several times and it never seemed to be hoppin'.

Course we were there two days before Christmas, so that might have had something to do with it being so dead.
