I was really high on him during his draft year. His first year at New Jersey showed some of his talent, then it became apparent that he's not a hard worker. His jump shot hasn't improved much since entering the league, and that's not caused by the lack of playing time. Still, he's young and injury-free. I'd definitely trade Luther Head for him, not that it says anything about his value .
I really like him as a prospect though his field goal percentage is on par with Rafer Alston. I can see him improving into a solid pg, and Rockets have done well with developing young players.
I was thinking the same thing when I read the news this afternoon... Since we have a lot of scorers in our team, he can a pass 1st pg... But the problem is, he wants to get out of Golden State to have an opportunity to play... I think his role will be the same here in Houston... A 3rd string pg
He can play alongside Brooks in the second unit. On offense Williams will play 1 while Brooks shifts to 2. On Defense Williams has the size to guard opposing 2s. And one can always dream that Williams will blossom into a starting-caliber PG and replace Alston...
Thread title clearly states Marcus and not Marvin. Anyway didn't the Warriors give up a future 1st round pick for him? I think they would ask too much for him.
Yeah they pretty much wanted him to be Baron Davis' replacement. Dunno how everything went so terribly wrong...
Well from the article it seems like Chris Mullins feels like Marcus Williams should be in the rotation. I guess Nelly thinks something different.
I thought adding him to GS would be a solid fit. I guess I was wrong. The problem with him seems to be attitude and work ethic -- the Darius Miles "I don't need to work hard. Don't tell me I need to improve my jumper either" type of thing. It's a shame considering how good he was in college and how the NBA is so deprived of PG's with the type of natural instincts and court vision he had/has. Not many floor generals out there can touch the ball and instantly know what to do with it or where to pass it. He could do that in college and it was always hard to judge him in the pro's backing up Jason Kidd when he was playing 40 minutes per night. His situation in GS is very unfortunate and disappointing.
how does williams have the size to guard 2's at 6'3'' 205?? it's a generous 6'3'' they list him as..........the only reason 2 guards aren't 6'3'' is because they're too short and get converted to some combo pg role.
Marcus had been showing his special talent even since he played with Kidd in New Jersey, but he hasn't got enought time to continue his running after traded to GS. But the PG problems isn't the most pressing one currantly as we have rafer and brooks who are equally good at PG (neither of them is great but Marcus isn't gonna be a little bit better than them). Yao plays pretty well recently but will he still play that great in the deep season when his strenth is approching to his limit. We need a big guy who can stand up at c when yao is tired or even injuried. We have three PFs and two PGs and 2SFs and a couple of SGs in rotation, but just only ONE center.
If u watched Marcus Williams with the Nets, u know he sucks. TO machine, cant shoot, cant defend. I said Nelson wouldnt play him when he got traded. So, it's not a surprise for me he's a bench warmer. Let's see which team will take M Williams. Bill Duffy has some magic. But I dont think any coach will be desperate enough to play M Williams if there is alternative.
