"The problem was the cartilage was wearing down," the 29-year-old Howard said. "I have been playing basketball for a very long time. When you have the bone rubbing on bone it just brings a lot of pain. Every step or every movement I was making, it was just a lot of pain. I didn't want to put myself or my teammates through that by trying to play through that.

Look at the bright side, no one is going to offer him a 4 year max next year now

It's really odd for him to be having bone on bone though, he hasn't had any removed has he? Brandon Roy had all his cartilage removed

Why is clutchfans not panicking? I don't get it, I would have expected a 50 page discussion by now.

Yeah, how do you get to bone on bone when you're 29 and never had any knee surgeries? Ewing got his knees scoped lots of times and I don't ever remember him having this issue.

After the emotional rollercoaster of dealing with Yao being forced into retirement due to injury..... I'm not sure I'm ready to deal with this again.. :(

Quick! Name some players who were diagnosed as 'bone to bone' who came back to be a key player for their respective teams! ANYONE?

Move DMo to a starting C. Give Dwight 20-25 productive mpg for the rest of his tenure here.
