I was thinking about last offseason and how excited everyone was to potentially get Marc Jackson. I guess it's hard to say what effect that would've had on our team last year... Do you think we would have been in the same position to get Ming/Boki this year? So how about it? Would Jackson have prevented us from getting Ming? Who would you rather have? I'm definitely looking forward to seeing our #1 pick in action and I think he has much more potential than Jackson so I'm pretty stoked that Golden State matched our offer sheet last year....
I'm happy that we didn't get him, but at the time it would've been good for the team, but times change.
As far as I remember, we would have still had the same situation. Maybe we would have lost #1 by winning a few more games though. It really would have been great to have both!
Hindsight is 20 20. If we miss the playoffs again this year and get the #1 again, will you say "aren't you glad we didn't make the playoffs?" Or if we make the playoffs and exit early, will you say "damn, we could have had the #1 pick, if only we sucked a little more. If only we had not signed various players that got us to the playpffs, we could have gotten to the lottery." I'm happy we got Yao and Boki, i'll be happy next year if we get more lottery studs, or if we sign free agents who we reasonably think will get us to the playoffs. But i will be happiest when we actually make the playoffs. Just as I would have been ecstatic if we had made them last year, with MJs help. wOw
Actually, if "we" won the #1 pick, it wouldn't be ours. We owe Memphis a pick next year for the Francis trade. Now if we can send another 1st rounder, I think we can keep it. So, if we suck again, we get no "reward." We can only go for the gold and be happy, this year. I did get your point, but I was just pointing that out.
hindsight 20/20, bingo! We've talked about this before. If MoT was on another team you wouldn't notice him either. We would have never know how good Chucky Brown was with that train of throught, Chucky was motivated to play for us. Marc would have been too.
I agree hindsight is 20/20. Another scenerio people forget is that if the Rockets would have gotten Marc Jackson and still fell apart and got the #1 pick, then the Rockets have an extra big man to deal. Right now teams like Phoenix, Orlando, Milwaukee, Minnesota, they would love a big man like Cato but the Rockets can't deal him because he's our only true back-up center. But if we have Marc Jackson we have a surplus of big men to deal. And instead of KT being on the block we have a TRUE center to deal.
You know, I've gone back and forth. After the first "Are you glad we didn't get Marc Jackson" thread, I was going to say yes. But then, after the second one, I was going to say no. Then I read the third one and decided that yes, I was glad. Then I read the fourth one and changed my mind again. Of course, the fifth one made me rethink the whole thing again, and I didn't come back to no until the sixth one. After the seventh, I wasn't sure again, but the eighth kind of settled it for me, until the ninth, at which point I was back in the yes camp for a while, right up until the 10th. And now comes this one, and I'm more confused than ever. Let's start another one so those of us who haven't made up our minds can sort it all out.
I was all set to say I'm glad that we didn't get him. Now I'm confused more than ever and feeling dizzy after reading this post.
who says we will absolutelypositively not have him here in two weeks? Minn'd reportedly give him away and he could become a Rocket on 10/15. But, will he? Would we want him? I have a feeling there's another move or two left before Tip-Off (as in when Yao is o-fficially delivered to his rightful home?)...
LOL!!!!! Will, that was true Monty Python humor!!! Reminds me of the Holy Hand Grenade skit... http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~pparker/sounds/hhg1.au http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~pparker/sounds/hhg4.au http://www.cc.gatech.edu/~pparker/sounds/hhg5.au
Wow... I thought I paid better attention to the board and I hadn't noticed a thread on this before.. Please excuse me.. Of course hindsight is 20/20... I didn't want to mention the obvious. I started the thread because I thought it might be something different to discuss, but it looks like its already been covered and I pretty much stated the obvious... I think I really need the season to start!
I never wanted him and I'm glad we didn't get him. I've never been that impressed with MJ. errr Marc Jackson. (we have had a number of threads to this extent but they all get rehashed at some point)
3fingeredgus, You edited your last post. Wonder what you said in your original post? "You sorry sonsofb*****..." etc? To tell the truth, I don't remember the old posts about Marc Jackson either. But there is very little that hasn't been talked ad nauseum here. At least Rashard signed; now Rashard, there was an overdone topic!
Hey, if we had Marc Jackson, maybe he would have had the same work ethic he had at GS, he would be starting and we could have traded hands of stone Cato for draft picks or something in the Eastern Conference.
I'd still take him over Cato. I"d make that trade right now. except we need Cato's money for Ming in 06. Damn. Ok. Waive Collier. Maybe Minn. will eat some contract. The difference between MJ and Cato is hands, brains, and motivation. Otherwise, eh.
