Worse than tobacco? Good for u? Bad for u? I was surprised of how many older adults smoke based on their professions & interests. Should it be legal? or not? Your thoughts...

I think I only view mar1juana in a negative light because I had a close friend who started smoking weed and eventually got into heavier stuff and really ****ed up his life. A smart kid with a bright future is now on the front lines in Iraq.

Whether its good or bad for you is entirely up to your perception. Bad for your lungs? Yep. Good to help someone increase their appetite? Yep. Good for glaucoma? Yep. Good for anxiety? Can be, but it depends on you.

All the same, mar1juana has zero business being illegal, especially when alcohol and tobacco remain legal.

Want to control the drug trade and take the power away from murderous dealers and cartels? Legalize it, tax it, regulate it.

    Legalize. Period.

In college, my roommate and his group of friends were potheads and alcoholics. They were the stupidest group of people I've ever encountered. A few, including my roommate, got suspended and eventually dropped out because they were always out of it and never went to class. Seeing this from a sober perspective kind of turned me off of the whole getting high thing.

    Weed>Cigarettes, Any other drug...

I think If you stay home and smoke (don't drive) the damage it does to you is a lot less severe than some other drugs.

And I'm pretty sure there are some articles out there about scientists and doctors saying weed is perfectly fine to do.

    EDIT: Here it is
    http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2006/05/060526083353.htm

With all the **** that cigarettes do for you, I don't see why thats illegal.

BTW, There is a difference between everyday and once every couple of weeks.

    Leeeegalize It... ;)

my dad smoked weed for all of my childhood and I had absolutely no clue of it.
the only downside is he was addicted so he was cranky and abusive when he didn't have it.
other peeps I know that do it are addicted and always want me to do it cause they dont like doing it alone...kinda sucks for them.

I think this is one of the reasons it should be legal. If he was getting it from a licensed vendor, the store clerk wouldn't be asking "would you like some cocaine with that?"

But at the same time, TABC is a cool name and it wouldn't have the same zing if it were TABCM. Seriously though, it would be something else for the state to regulate at what gain? Sin taxes would probably go up by a large margin, it would eliminate a gateway and make the jump from legal to illegal drug use a little more drastic (from being a legal citizen with weed & alcohol straight to a felon with coke & heroin). But cumulatively more people would do it since it didn't have the legal stigma...

I guess there are two sides to every coin, and both are easy to rationalize in this case.

It should be legal. It is silly for it not to be legal. It has harmful health effects to be sure, but not to the point that it should be outlawed.

mar1juana alone, by itself, is the best bang for the buck on the health benefits (relieves/supresses almost every common symptom of illnesses) and has an entertainment value way over cigs or alcohol.

Also, I work in the criminal/legal processing field and i will say that there is no profile for a weed smoker. The majority are average joes who you wouldn't expect to do it. I could write an essay on this topic but i'm short on time.

And no I'm not a weed smoker nor would I support weed smoking while it's against the law. If it was legal I'd expect it to be regulated similar to alcohol.

i think if it was legal we would be reminded why american youth are r****ds...
like 95 out of 100 people would be toking every day. more high drivers, people not giving a sh*t about things.
just look at college where the alcohol is all over the place, like 80% drink..and that's in college, where kids aren't as r****ded as most others.

That's definitely a valid argument, but by the same sense, wouldn't we be better off if alcohol, tobacco, and mar1juana were all illegal?

Similar experience freshman year. Half the people I hung out w/ were total potheads. Well at least they didn't start out that way, but by sophmore year they were all about pot and drinking full time. That eventually led to occassional harder drugs on the weekends. Suffice it to say they all were kicked out for grades or didn't come back next year. That's not to say I didn't smoke, just a little here and there but I never enjoyed it much and decided it just wasn't for me.

Oh hell no. We tried that once with prohibition. All the power and money went straight to the black market-wielding gangsters of the day, and that's EXACTLY what has happened and is happening now with each and every illegal drug.

You end the "war" on drugs that we are so obviously losing by legalizing and regulating it all, just like we did when we ended prohibition. Take the power away from those who have no morals about such things and regulate the damn stuff.

When I was in junior high, the most difficult thing to get, comparatively speaking, was alcohol. Pot, coke, acid, xtc, etc. were all easily obtainable in comparison to booze.

I don't smoke either varieties, but I know lots of people who smoke both. I don't have an issue with weed and I think it is likely better for you than cigarettes, certainly less addictive.

The one thing I notice about friends who do smoke pot is that they tend to struggle balancing their emotions if they smoke on a regular basis (daily or several times a week). Everyone I've known who smokes that much tends to be moody, not that much different from people who drink too much.

But, those who use irregularly don't seem to be effected that much.

For myself, I don't want smoke of any kind in my lungs if I can help it.

legalize it, then regulate it... smoking weed is much more harmless than drinking alcohol(decision wise at least, im not sure healthwise). How many carbaccidents are related to alcohol compared to pot? I would bet anything that alcohol has cause a lot more. Plus, when people drink, they get all rowdy and do stupid things while people that smoke weed just sit there and smoke more weed. at least thats how i roll

for those that say it should be legalized. how do you think they would go about taxing it? would it just be one flat rate i assume? also at what age do you make smoking it legal? 21, like alcohol, 18? or maybe even younger?

Not only should pot be legal, but all drugs should be legal. We have too many restrictions on things people do to themselves.

So you're saying people that want to or like to toke every day aren't because mar1juana is illegal? I highly doubt thats the the reason why people are deterred from smoking. If mar1juana were to be legalized tomorrow that doesn't mean I'm going to start smoking it just because it's legal.
