Man's racist outburst at KFC Saturday, May 30, 2009, 07:00Comment on this story A PAINTER and decorator from North Devon has admitted using racist language in front of a woman of African origin. At Barnstaple Magistrates' Court last week Malcolm Hancocks, 33, of Oakhays, South Molton, pleaded guilty to a charge of racially aggravated harassment involving words. The court heard that Hancocks went to the Kentucky Fried Chicken drive-through takeaway in Roundswell, Barnstaple, at 10pm on Monday, March 23. He went to a window to speak to a member of staff but was told to go to around the corner to an intercom system, which he did. The member of staff who greeted him there was a black woman who was born in Tanzania; she didn't hear exactly what Hancocks had said to her and asked him a question, at which point he became abusive and said: "You f****** black ****". When spoken to by police, Hancocks denied he had been speaking to the KFC worker, and told officers he was referring to his ex-girlfriend, who is black, and he refused to apologise. But at the hearing last week, he changed his plea to guilty. His defence solicitor said he had changed his plea when it had been explained that such offensive language did not have to be directed at a person to cause the offence, and Hancocks accepted the KFC worker would have heard his outburst, and could have been distressed. In mitigation, the court heard that Hancocks was "crotchety" after being away working for a month and his dogs were being naughty in his car. When he was told to go around to the intercom, he lost his temper. The defence solicitor said Hancocks wanted to tell the court he was not a racist and his former partner of eight years was black and they had two children together; she was even in court to support him. The presiding magistrate said: "The aggravating feature is that this victim was serving the public in this drive-through KFC. You have caused her distress and it was intentional." If they had these rules at Crockett Elementary or Baytown Lee (twenty years ago), so would detention. I'm both amused (as a minority) and horrified (as an American). Britian is a wonderful paradox (like any other advanced and powerful civilization), tolerant and compassionate to the point of suppression.

lol. It's funny to see the shoe on ther other foot. This is what is was like for me in every advanced class I was ever in and most of the fancy restaurants I've been to around here (Oklahoma).

I always had that in school, as the only asian kid. I got it from the adults, too. When I moved to a new school, they put me in ESL. Um, the last school I went was in Houston and all the teachers taught classes in English and they didn't teach me any other languages.
Seriously I was in a KFC the other day, and they had run out of Original chicken. What? I'm sorry? Kentucky Fried Chicken ran out of Chicken ... Now just Kentucky Fried .... It was spaz.
I drove through Church's a couple of weeks ago at the wife's behest and they were out of chicken. Had to drive several more miles to a KFC.
