One of the longer videos I've seen (clocking in around 10 minutes). Just a fascinating look into the life of a Japanese girl and her "relationships". Many claims are made that she's happy but I see a lot of sadness in her eyes (maybe I'm just projecting but it seems that way to me) and definitely when she speaks.

On another note, wth is going on in Japan???

It's fairly common to have pay for affection services in japan. Not really sad. They just view it as time-saving. a lot of ppl here are perfectly happy not having to deal with a "real relationship". On top of that, you can choose who you're companion is rather than just taking the best thing you can find in a sleazy bar.

But the fact that it's a girl is kinda sad.

I know Japan has a history of pay for play with geishas (yes yes they're cultured blah blah, you still pay them), but am I the only one who felt like the girl was just empty? I think these kinds of clubs prey on lonely women who have been through a lot.

Wow, this reporter had a chance to do something really meaningful and she missed the emotions of her subjects completely.

No one here can really tell, for sure.

But if she's enjoying Final Fantasy XIII, that's a tell-tale sign.

You don't understand the pressure she is facing being a "left-over" girl in Japan.

On another note, I don't understand why chicks in east Asia act like little girls. I mean did you see her play kid nintendo? They wear micky mouse watches, weird hair style, have hello kitty hand bag decorations and talk like daddy's little girl. It does not appeal to me at all. I don't get the culture there anymore. Here it's the polar opposite, girls can't wait to become a woman.

There is a good documentary called "The Great Happiness Space" from a few years back that gives you a better picture of how the clubs operate.

Seems like a natural extension of host clubs for men. That bit at the end where the clubs cheat the victims into prostitution is sad. I guess instead of epic yakuza beatdowns for men, there's slave labor for women.

I'm pretty sure society knows what goes on there. Seems like those who go there regardless have given up on people and expectations and rather get something out of their "eventual exploitation". It's an attempt of feeling some sort of control out of a well maintained yet hopeless bubble.

I have known someone who had a similar job like this in Japan.

He told me that the collective name for people like him were "hosto" or in plain english "hosts".

Japan seems fun to live in, but so socially awkward.

The entire world would judge us the same based on clubbing in the Jersey Shore... or Dallas.
