Just look at everything that happened in the play-offs. The teams that were pretty much just flat-out better than rockets lost this year. Dallas was put out in the first round and the suns were put out by the Spurs. The Rockets didn't have to worry about them. If the Rockets would have beaten the Jazz, I truly think they could have played the Spurs and beaten them. The Rockets can match up with the Spurs, and they proven that this season. This was the year, because I doubt that Dallas will lose in the first round again. And I'm pretty sure the suns will do better also. Damn, just one Tmac jumper away from playing right now...
Well it's tough, it really is. I really think we should beat Utah...It's tough for me as for every Rockets' fan. We lost again but we didn't lost withe the weakest team. We'd had a great season with 52 win (despite Yao's injury) but we were really bad in the playoffs in my opinion. But when you look at that playoffs you can say "wow". The best team in the NBA, Dallas Mavericks lost to number 8 Golden State Warriors. You can say "wow" whan you see that Spurs beat Suns and Jazz Warriors. There were a lot of suprises so our situation wasn't the worst. Now we have a new season, new coach, probably new faces in the team. We have Tracy and Yao together (hopefully they'll stay healthly all season and playoffs long). We have a new adventure, new hopes. Now we have to work hard to make next year at least the 2nd round. We can still do that!
No it wasn't. A roster that only has two players that can score consistently is not built for a deep playoff run.
Had we beat the Jazz, we most likely would have beaten Golden State easily as they did. The Spurs would be favored against us, however, this would have been the easiest road to the finals we had ever seen. Basically knocking off a #5, #8, then a #3. We have given the Spurs problems in the past, i think we could play them better than Utah. For some reason T-Mac raises his game another level vs the Spurs and Yao gives them problems they just can't solve.
Trust me, if we would've gotten that far in the playoffs, I don't think we would've stood much of a chance against the Spurs, they very similar to the Jazz, their backcourt would've lit us up. The teams have been laying waste too, we could barely beat. So I don't think we would fare any better. series would be like 4-1 or even a sweep. This team wasn't ready for prime time, like I said about eight months ago.
I don't think we would've beaten San Antonio. You thought the Jazz got away with murder shoving T-Mac around all game? Imagine what Bowen would've been allowed to do. But we still should've at least reached the Conference Finals. That would've been a major step forward for this team. You can build on that. Instead it's back to the drawing board yet again.
Yea it does, but I'm just watching the Jazz and Spurs play, and I can just picture the Rockets playin. When the Rockets first lost, all I could think of was that lost. But now that I'm not as depressed any more, I'm just imagining how the Rockets could have did. I can just imagine the Rockets putting up a great fight againts the Spurs in a competitive series. Yao would be a problem for them down low on defense and offence, and we all know as good as Bruce Bowen D is, he can't hold Tmac. But let me stop imagining, because it means nothing.
No, I don't think the Rockets would have beaten the Warriors. In fact, I think we would have been beaten badly.
I would agree that things fell almost perfectly for the Rockets. The two teams that they absolutely could not have defeated in a 7 game series lost prematurely. The Spurs would rightfully have been favorites against the Rockets - but the Rockets would have had a decent chance. Everything else lined up well, but the Rockets didn't get their job done.
um don't compare the spurs now to the reg. season. duncan is kicking up a notch now. 10th straight 20-10 game in a row. duncan was coasting through the reg. season dude. the spurs are good enough to coast and still get the 3rd best record. as not "superstar" like our stars played, we STILL should have won if our damn role players hit some shots. why can't they be like michael finley, derek fisher, harrington??? my goodness. our role players suck like hell.
Im still bummed from the loss. I havent yet reached the turnaround point that I reach every offseason that gives my optimism and outlook on the upcoming season. It hurts a lot. Especially since the mavs lost. I would have been okay with us losing in the second round. it would suck but id get over it easier. not to mention JVG has been fired, another kick in the side. Sooner or later though, ill reach that point where ill gear up for the Rockets run. Until then, ill just keep watching my 1993-1994 Clutch City DVDs to pick me up. PS- on that note, does anyone know where I can find the 94-95 finals games?
On paper, maybe. But there was always something missing with this team. Those missed rebounds exposed it to everyone.
I know what else was missing. It was 8 Rockets that couldn't even score 1 point in a playoff game. Talk about a team effort when 2/3 of your team did literally no better than any poster on this board in terms of scoring.
