Fresh news from Chinese Media. http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2002-05-23/23276323.shtml Original source is Oriential sports daily, belongs to the same Campany as Sharks, so should be reliable. Basically, say *Erik Zhang is just a spoke person not an agent, any agent need to go through sharks first. *Sharks are not happy that Erik zhang is in Houston, but yet no one has officially contacted sharks. *Many teems Other than Rox have contacted sharks after the lotto. *Sharks assured Yao MIng's parents they will send MIng to NBA if CBA stipulations are followed. Boy, I really do have much confidence my chinese folk in sharks know how to deal with US teams. You can try to use a tranlation page if you want to see the original news. Peace
thanks, michecon. That's depressing. Hope once CD gets in touch with them they won't still feel slighted.
Looks like the Sharks want 2 Rocket players in return as well..no thanks!! Trade the #1 and #15 pick with Kenny Thomas for Odom, Kandi and the #8 pick..now thats a deal!!
michecon, that certainly appears to be the case. I understand the Sharks want player compensation, but from our perspective, it's ridiculous to ask a team to send a player in exchange. We don't have that type of control. An alternative arrangement is going to have to be made, and I hope they're okay with that. Houston wouldn't be unique in balking at that particular request. As for the training camps, that's a different story. I'm confident the Rockets could make something happen there.
If I see it correctly, the master series of negotiation begins. On the Rockets side: *It's a bit strange they haven't officially contacted SH sharks, it should be a courtesy to do so. It's either (1) They haven't made up the mind, which is not an excuse. (2) They want to put pressure on shark, which they acheived from that news. (3) They are not serious in drafting Ming, so they create smoke in teh US with Erick Zhang, but do not really want to deal with shark. (4) They want flexibility, so they send a semi-agent there first to test the water. If negotiation stuck, then they can enter with a new clean slate. This is most likely the case. *sharks are reating though, (1) They point out Erick is not yet an agent, they want to dialogue with Rox directly because their demand may not be conventional. (2) The crap about "demand one NBA player" is made up by mid-quote. I remmeber, Sharks Li only said "hope" to introduce NBA caliber player back to sharks. (3) At the end of the day, they may find some way out. But I can see Rox are new on this dealing. NYK are more sleaky. But it's all gonna be enjoyable to watch it unfold, can we say "extra show for teh off-season?"
I think we're just seeing some posturing. However, we can send them Langhi and Collier. If those guys go there and light up the league we know not to draft any more players from there.
