Instead of checking into the hospital, a man allegedly shot by his girlfriend on Thanksgiving Day left his house, returned to take a shower, left again, bought some beer and checked into a local motel.

Bond for Beverly Silva, 39, was set at $1,500 Monday at a hearing in Natrona County Circuit Court. She is charged with aggravated assault and possession of a deadly weapon with the intent to threaten, Circuit Court officials said, after allegedly shooting her boyfriend, Wayne Kleiber, in the armpit.

Police say Silva went to her boyfriend's home in the 300 block of North Jefferson Street around 8:30 a.m. armed with a stolen Titan .25-caliber semi-automatic pistol and shot him.

About an hour-and-a-half after the alleged shooting, Silva was stopped by police for speeding on CY Avenue, the report said.

She was reportedly driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested, police said.

Her male passenger, Larry Calderon, who police say stole the gun from a roommate of Silva and his, was waiting in the car outside the victim's home when the shooting occurred. He was arrested on an unrelated warrant during the traffic stop, police said.

At that time, no one knew the shooting had occurred because Kleiber, the victim, had not gone to the hospital or called authorities, police Sgt. Larry Baker said Monday.

At the jail, Silva reportedly told a deputy about the shooting, providing only vague details.

Casper police subsequently tried to question her but she refused to talk, the report said.

Police also questioned Calderon, and found out that Kleiber had been shot, but Calderon didn't know Kleiber personally, and could not tell police where the victim might be.

Police were granted a search warrant for the victim's home later that day and found Kleiber's bloody clothing and a bullet and casing, but Kleiber had still not returned.

The next morning, just before 10 a.m., police located Kleiber and took him to the Wyoming Medical Center, where he was treated for a flesh-and-muscle bullet wound to the chest under his right arm, police reported.

Kleiber told investigators that he awoke to Silva pointing the gun at his face, that a struggle over the gun ensued, and he was shot.

He took the gun from her, he said, and she ran outside and got into the car with Calderon and the two left.

Kleiber told investigators he got into his truck, purchased some beer and, after showering, checked into a motel because "he did not want to be in trouble for taking the gun from Silva, and did not want to cause any further problems," the report said.

Rodney Loghry, Silva and Calderon's roommate, told police the gun Kleiber was shot with belonged to him and that it was taken from his bedroom nightstand without his knowledge, according to the report.

Calderon told police he had the gun and gave it to Silva, who was reportedly angry with Kleiber over a previous fight.

Silva told the deputy at the jail that she just wanted to scare Kleiber with the gun, the report stated
