Let me pre-face this by saying that if my neighbor did this to one of my dogs...then not only would I shoot and kill his two dogs but I would likely shoot and kill him. I feel that would be warranted even if I went to jail cause this behavior cannot be tolerated. I consider my dogs my family and, if you attack my family, you attack me and I feel I have a right to defend my family. It's just a dog...you say. No, it's my dog, my friend, and my family. I would be overcome with rage if this happened. I wouldn't be shooting video to capture it as it happened...I would be shooting my gun. I also feel I should be absolved of responsibility afterwards cause this person was pushing my buttons and is responsible for the repurcussions. That said...read the damn article and cringe. Surf Man gets 10 years for siccing pit bulls on neighbor's dog Associated Press DALLAS - A 23-year-old Dallas man who unleashed his two pit bull terriers on a neighbor's dog and watched as they mauled the hound-Dalmatian mix has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and fined $14,000. Carey D. McMillian received the maximum possible sentence on Wednesday at the animal-cruelty trial. A witness to the September 2003 attack in Pleasant Grove described seeing McMillian goad his dogs to attack and ultimately kill the dog named Cisco. "The only reason for killing Cisco was for his own perverse pleasure," lead prosecutor Rick Jackson said in closing arguments. "This case cries out for the max." When the panting and exhausted pit bills let up, McMillian would grab Cisco and shake the dog to provoke the pit bulls to "tear the dog apart," the neighbor said. A neighbor surreptitiously videotaped a portion of the attack. Jurors watched the tape three times before deliberating for 30 minutes and returning a guilty verdict. The charge of animal cruelty carries a maximum punishment of two years in a state jail, but the offense was enhanced to a third-degree felony after prosecutors proved that state law could define the two dogs as "deadly weapons," The Dallas Morning News reports in its Thursday editions. Jurors also found McMillian guilty of a lesser misdemeanor charge of dog fighting. "This happens every day, but in most cases it's not caught on tape," Ken Qualls, an investigator with the SPCA of Texas, told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for its Thursday editions. "This shows that behavior like this will not be tolerated."
I know how you feel Surf. I don't even want to think what I would do if someone did this to my dog. Every day it seems, mankind gets worse and worse. It makes me sick.
There needs to be further education by animal groups in schools to teach young kids that animals have feelings. They hurt like we hurt. They get sad like we get sad. Beating a dog is like beating a deaf, mute, handicap human being. It rages me to think that people can't grasp the concept that 'it is just a dog' doesn't mean anything! Anyone who has pets, knows that your pets can understand you. When I'm down, my dog will come up and nuzzle me and try to cheer me up.
I'm so freaking glad that he got it bumped up to a felony and then got the max for it! God, I'd be devastated if that were any of my dogs.
I hope he serves every moment of it. It's hard to believe that there are people out there who would do something like this. Who would enjoy watching something like this? The vindictive side of me would like to see this guy be roomies with a 250-pound, yet muscular, dog lover at his new residence.
...who also enjoys wearing lots and lots of eye shadow. (i had to get some sort of Fletch reference in here)
