CHICAGO — The Chicago Bulls renounced the rights to three players Wednesday as the retired B.J. Armstrong, fellow guard Matt Maloney and center Chris Antsey were all released. Armstrong, a member of Chicago's championship teams in 1991, 1992 and 1993, officially retired on April 18 and during the summer was hired as a special assistant to Bulls vice president Jerry Krause. The 6-2 Armstrong played the first six seasons of his career with the Bulls. In 518 games for Chicago, he averaged 10.7 points. Limited by injuries last season, he averaged only 7.4 points and 2.9 assists in 27 games. Armstrong, who has also played for Golden State, Orlando and Charlotte during an 11-year career, had his best season in 1993-1994, averaging 14.8 points and earning a berth on the All-Star team. Maloney, a collegiate star at Pennsylvania who was originally drafted by the Houston Rockets, signed with the Bulls on January 7 and appeared in 51 games. He scored in double figures 10 times, averaged 6.4 points and 2.7 assists and led the team with 62 3-pointers. The 7-foot Antsley played a career-high 73 games in 1999-2000, setting career highs in points (6.0 ppg), field goal percentage (.442), free throw percentage (.789) and rebounds (3.8). He had four double-doubles and scored in double figures on 13 occasions. ------------------
Could this be done as a pre-cursor to the rumored Brce Drew trade? Maybe more for the Glen Rice thing as well. Anyways I wish Maloney well. He needs to find another team with a solid post player to create open shots for him. Maybe SA? ------------------
Funny, they are releasing players like they are GOOD or something!!! Time for a reality check! ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."
4chuckie,I was thinking the same thing....I think the Bulls are getting ready to pull the trigger on the trade for Bryce. ------------------
Since we are paying Maloney anyway, we ought to sign him for the minimum and keep him on the IR with a mysterious ailment as backup insurance, providing Drew leaves, that is. ------------------
Maloney was never drafted by the Rockets, or for that matter any NBA team. I believe the first time he played in the NBA was briefly with the Golden State Warriors before signing with the Rockets the summer of 1996. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET
Yeah, what he said. We got Maloney from the CBA, didn't we? Anyway, the guy definitely was undrafted. ------------------ Falk that Mo Fo!!!
I think the Suns should sign Maloney up so that they can team up the lethal ivy league pairing of Maloney and Dudley! ------------------
