I know it is posted in the NBA Dish forum about them two going to the Lakers, but I was wanting some insight from a Rockets standpoint. With a lineup of Shaq, K. Malone, D. George, Kobe, and Payton, what in the HELL are the Rockets going to do?!?! The Rockets need to dip into free agency and get some players because the teams with the firepower are adding more ammunition to make it to the Finals.

In case you don't feel like reading those threads I will say what I said in them to you. All Payton and Malone will do to the Lakers is take the ball out of Shaq and Kobes hands and in my mind that is good.

Why worry about the Lakers when we can't even beat the Grizzlies?

Yeah? ... hmmm?... think about it.

It'd just be nice to make the effing playoffs.

I'm sure that would get the Lakers another championship, but I don't think it will affect the Rockets at all. That lineup would be long gone before the Rockets make a push for a championship. We're still working on making a push for the playoffs.

There could be come upside to this whole thing. Other teams, feeling that they must retool their squad to compete with the new and improved Lakers, may dismantle their teams. The Mavs are already willing to part with Nash and Finley for Kidd just so they can have a chance vs. the Spurs, just think what they would do to compete vs. the Lakers.

If or when the Rockets are ready to go for a championship, the Lakers will be in their rebuilding phase (assuming Kobe doesn't come back) and the rest of the league will be finally realizing the backlash of their actions.

Huh? Where are you getting that the Mavs are willing to give up Nash and Finley for Kidd??????????????

I can't hardly believe that one, but I hope that it's true. It would make the Mavs weaker.

Who cares? The Rox aren't winning the NBA championship next year anyway. As long as the Mavs don't win and the Spurs don't take the TX title lead 3-2 against the Rox I could care less who wins next year, as long as the Rox make the playoffs next year.

Don't Let the Lakers Off-Season Moves Fool You... They're Dynasty is Dying and Ours has just Begun!

Think about it. FOUR egos on one team? Sure, it's a nice starting four of marqee names, but do you honestly think there are enough points, let alone ego room for Kobe, Shaq, Malone, AND Payton??? All it takes is a few losses, and I bet my hat, we'll see just how fast this team gets undone. Kobe is expecting his fair number of shots to jack up. Payton, while a great passer, is still a scorer at heart. Meanwhile, Malone is not the type to simply yield to a bigger egos. I don't know who these players are kidding. But if Jackson has anything to do with this, he has probably forgotten all the lessons from "Zen" thinking.

But onto more positive news... we should be happy with the talent with have. The pieces are in place and we have a great coach. The key is balance... and that includes egos too. Personally, I like what I see in our mix of egos. We have some feistiness, we have some coolness, we even have some nerves of steel. And our two marquee names are more than enough to bull our way to victory. While Portland never quite reached the ring, they're free spending ways and 'big talk' of amassing great names is a perfect case study on how "names alone does not a champion make." The Rockets will be the preeminent team in a couple of years. We have our organization to thank for their patience and commitment to actually 'building' a team with a eye toward chemistry.

You have to make it into the playoffs before you can make it to the finals.

I wouldnt worry about the Lakers. The rockets will not be title contenders until Yao Ming hits his prime that will not happen probaly wont happen until Karl, Shaq, and GP get towards the end of their careers.

Kobe will probably be in Prison, Shaq will weigh over 400 lbs and be out half the year...so they need Payton and Malone to do their thing...and that means finishing 2nd.

    :)

    "man, f**k the lakers."

    no, but seriously...

the title of this thread could have been several other things...

Allen and Barry - Trouble for Rockets?
Arenas and Richardson - Trouble for Rockets?
Magette and Miller - Trouble for Rockets?
Hilario and Tskitishvili - Trouble for Rockets?

don't get ahead of yourself, nwo. we're a lottery team right now.

Whatever people will look to say about the 4 ego's. i think if it happens, they won't have a problem and win as many rings as they can while all are together. They probably will offer both 3yr contracts and that will be 3 yrs the Lakers will win the ring.

Another good example of a team with too many generals & not enough soldiers = no championships
