I think I made the perfect cup yesterday. Seriously, I was sitting there sipping and saying to myself, "Damn, this is good." It was the perfect blend of bitterness and sweetness. And today, I'm still thinking about it. Yea, i know...cool story, bro. Anyone else felt this way before?
Coffee always sucks when I make it at home. Even if I buy expensive coffee. And I have a newish coffee maker with a grinder built in. Don't know wtf I'm doing wrong. FML.
Yeah I have a french press up here in my office but I've only used it a few times. Perhaps I should give it another shot.
i didnt' use beans. it was cafe du monde with some sweetened condensed milk. i know it isn't gourmet, but damn, it was tasty.

The grinder also matters A LOT esp if you are making expresso. A burr grinder ensures you get an even grind which directly impacts how the water mingles with the grounds.
did you ever try the plastic bag test on the coffee? Also what kind of grinder do you have? I have a Baratza Maestro Plus but that sucker is super loud, do they make quiet ones?
I completely know what you mean. I usually have a pretty tasty cup every morning, but every now and then, it's just spot on perfect. The beans were roasted just right, they're fresh, I pulled the perfect amount into a shot, added just the right amount of cream and sugar. I remember those for a while.
I would also like to share my coffee story. This morning I brewed some coffee at the house and took it on the road. No sugars or creams mixed in since I'd be re-heating it an hour or so later. I mix it up an hour later and re-heat it but I didn't mix it well enough and I was like hmm... why doesn't this taste as sweet as it did at home? So I mixed it again and click klack pi-yow!
I've gotten a beautiful blend of coffee, cream, and sugar in my "HOMER Simpson D'oh!" to a perfect T when I add enough amount of cheap company-bought coffee, 6 packs of sugar, and two packs of cream. That's why I gave it up for Lent . I'm MEXICAN and I resent this racist statement, sir.
