Since the other thread has been gobbled up by insanity, here's a simple poll - make your pick. Post why if you'd like. I think Texas is the better team, but USC has distinct advantage in coaching. Mack Brown & Greg Davis have been much better this year, but their history in facing top-flight competition is not very good. The month off also is a huge wildcard in the mix. Last year, by most accounts, OU was the hot team to end the season, absolutely obliterating their last three opponents (holding them to 6 total points combined). Yet, we all see what happened. Regardless, whoever wins, I think this is a 10+ pt game. So my pick is Texas 42, USC 28. No national champion in the last 40 years has given up more than 20 ppg, so USC will be a first to do that as well. It will demonstrate that the mantra of "defense wins championships" (which I don't believe in anyway) doesn't hold.
What's not surprising is that 5 of the 6 people who think Texas will win by >10 points all either went to UT or live in Austin. Not sure about rhester... but yeah, there's no bias at all.
Young is fumble prone when he is under pressure. I said in another thread that i'd like to see Texas win, but my logic says USC will win. Texas has fumbled 24 times this year.
Ask Michigan and Ohio State what they think about that. I'm sticking with my original pick: Texas 41, USC 31. I've explained my reasoning multiple times so I'm not going to waste time going through that again. But that's my pick, and if I'm wrong, I'll be here to give props to reggie and the other USC backers that called otherwise. As an fyi, I'm leaving for LA tomorrow and won't be back home until next Thursday afternoon... so my internet access for the next week will be limited (if any). So, if the Horns do fall short, I'll be back to eat my share of crow... just give me a day or so to make it back.
You have consistently bashed UT since you've been on this board and you're whining about bias? You slay me. This homer is picking: UT 31 USC 27
Oh, and the poll is now skewed by one vote. I was in a hurry and meant to click Texas by 10 or less and accidentally clicked USC by 10 or less and clicked vote before I realized it... my bad, guys.
On ESPN Classic, they just showed last year's Rose Bowl - UT vs. Michigan. Vince Young was a stud in that game! But he's going to need that same performance and better against this USC team.
