Who is your choice? Personally Im going w/ Rodney Carney, he has great potential to be that great 3rd option as well as a great defensive stopper on defense so t-mac doesnt have to always guard the other teams best guy.
Its almost a shame that the Breakfast with the Coach thread was deleted since I actuallly typed out why I want Brewer and why I think those dreaming for Redick are offbase. oh well...as it goes. Brewer fits what VG said he wanted in the conversation over breakfast...and we all know how much emphasis they put on defense...which Redick wouldnt fit.
No doubt we're takin Brewer. Most polished nba ready player, I think Carney could become a Peitrus type player though and I wouldnt mind havin either. Sheldon could be usefull as well
Ive never seen the guy play but, ever since I read stuff about him about a month ago and everything I've read since, I have always said and will continue to say Brewer is the best choice. Not that I would dissapointed in a few others. But, I think he gives us THAT much more depth and versatility coming from one player it's a no-brainer.
Ronnie Brewer. At this point I'd be upset if we took anyone else, and I do mean anyone else. Other players might be considered better prospects overall, but Ronnie has everything we need.

Ronnie Brewer. He gives us the size in the backcourt, the defense, a third scoring option, decent shooting, and another playmaker. Unless Roy falls (Roy or Brewer ), Brewer is the way to go.
Worst case scenario is the following players will be drafted before we pick: Morrison, Thomas, Aldridge, Gay, Bargnani, Roy, and Brewer. If only one of these players should happen to be available (it almost certainly would be Brewer), then that's who we should pick. If none of the above 7 are available, we should seriously consider trading the pick. Otherwise, Marcus Williams, Carney, or Redick would make sense. Yahoo has us taking Foye in it's mock draft. That would be a mistake. He'd be another small combo guard who can't score efficiently.
I was actually being literal when I said "anyone". I wouldn't select Gay or Roy over Brewer at this point. Not even Morrison, although I think he'll be great somewhere someday, but he plays the same position as Tracy and doesn't play defense. In other words, if I were the Rockets and I had the #1 pick and couldn't trade down, I'd take Brewer. Call me crazy, but I see things in this guy that I don't see in anyone else in this draft.
I would be utterly bummed if that happened. Let's hope that Sheldon to Atlanta rumor has actual legs.
I chose Brewer in the poll, but if Gay or Morrison is available we must take them. FishBulb913, this is a great poll because you excluded the top guys who are unlikely to be available. But the very lopsided results beg another question: If you also excluded Brewer, what would the results be?
I think Brewer might be special, but I don't think I would take him over Brandon Roy (unless his knee issues are serious problem). I have a feeling Brewer might be a little raw offensively in his first year, while Roy will be able to start right away and give us 13-15 ppg. Below is a stat comparison of some possible SG/SFs. ORtg (offense rating) is an overall offensive efficiency metric (above 110 is pretty good, check out Basketball on Paper for details). FTRate is number of free throw attempts per 100 fga (shows how aggressive they were in getting to the line). TO% is percentage of personal offensive possessions used that resulted in a turnover (20% is typical, below 15% is very good). Ast% is percentage of teammates field goals that player assisted on. Blk% is percentage of opponent's 2-point field goal attempts player blocked, and Stl% is percentage of possessions player recorded a steal. He had better offensive numbers last year overall, while he was on the court. He didn't play nearly as many minutes, though. Also, the low FTrate indicate he wasn't as aggressive slashing to the basket. He had a very low assist%, so he wasn't creating as much for teammates. That would also explain his lower turnover rate (less slashing and less passing will result in fewer turnovers per touch). The rebounding is roughly the same -- Carney did better on the offensive boards, while Brewer did better on the defensive boards. Actually, I'd the edge to Carney because at the individual level offensive rebounds are more valuable than defensive rebounds. The %steals for Brewer is particularly impressive. That will be a huge asset for the Rockets, should we get him. Keep in mind that the range for top 100 for %blk is [6.86, 19.51] while %stl it is [3.22, 5.55]. In my opinion, it shows that Brewer probably has a better all-around game than Carney. Brewer didn't have a great year in terms of offensive efficiency, but I still think his entire skillset is more advanced. Amongst those 4 players, Brandon Roy has by far the best numbers. He's a tremendous offensive player, and it shows that he's very aggressive as well (strong getting to the free throw line and also on the glass). He's a playmaker as well. His steals/blocks are decent, not overly impressive. Amongst these four players, I think Roy has to be the surest bet to be a very good NBA player.
I am very inclined to come to the same conclusion, but not fully committed...everything sure does point to us Brewer over EVERYONE though....hmmm.....
