That's what Moochie makes. Lemme break it down. Mooch has a 6 year, 23 million dollar contract which comes out to 3.83333 million per year. If Moochie were to work a 40 hour work week including two weeks paid vacation every year, he would make $1842.95 an hour. But he doesn't work a normal work week. He plays for the Rockets. Now lemme drop some real formal science on you. Rockets played 82 games this season. Mooch played in all of them. He averaged 16.8 minutes a game. All his minutes added up equals to 1377.6 minutes or 22.96 hours or in work terms, or 2.87 8-hour work days per year. This comes to $166,957 an hour, $2782.62 a minute, and the 14 seconds that he is standing outside the three point line just dribbling the ball, is costing the Rockets $649.28. Think about it.
You really think another team wants him at his inflated salary? He is a former CBA player which means that his BYC (Base year Compensation) must be maintained. Which means that we must sign him, then trade and still stay under at least 115% of the cap. It is just not likely to happen.
I think the rule changes affected Moochie's game the most. It is hard to dribble through a zone defense. I think Moochie should work on developing his outside shot, passing in the post, and cutting. I thought the zone defense would have messed up Steve Francis' game as well, but Francis game improved.
While I hate Moochie as well... In all fairness, you don't simply play games. There are practices, tape sessions, workouts, etc. That adds up, too. To be fair, you should add all that into your calculation. But, I agree. He's way overpaid. He sucks. I've been saying that since he first came into the league.
Point well taken, but not entirely fair. Moochie, like all athlete "works" a lot more than just court time. Playing or not, he has to be there forthe entire game and warmups. He has practice, time in the gym, travel, mandatory drug testing, photo day and such. But to support your statement, don't forget to add in his per diem, which I think is a tangible amount of money, basket ball card money, maybe something for shoes, public speaking money, maybe something for jersey sales (league wide - not moochie shirts), bobble head appearance, free meals on game days, frequent flyer miles, discounts around town, and perhaps a pension. My guess is that even base NBA players make around $1000,000 per year above and beyond their salaries. No doubt, being a pro athlete is a sweet deal. I, surprised more people don't go for it.
The first management have to do is to Convince him to work on his game, stop dribbling I don't know, really after the rules he has been terrible. Waive him if possible.
If I were an NBA journeyman, i would at least keep my body in playing shape. watching moochie play, he has physical disadvantages, but he compounds them by not being in top physical condition. When he actually gets by his defender, he's either not athletic or skilled enough to finish. A little bit of pressure while he's trying to run the offense really bothers him, as he's not even quick enough to take advantage of the defender playing so close. When he makes a shot, its a reason for celebration. In fewer words, he shouldn't even be in this league.
So he gets paid to watch NBA basketball courtside and shoot around with REAL NBA stars. Uh, I know lots of guys who hoop a lot for free... next! I pay to belong to a gym, bet it ain't as nice as his. wah... first class travel is RUFF You are NOT seriously saying that taking a piss is work are you? Ya real difficult stuff. I'm glad that you came back at the end of your post to at least say he was overpaid, but come ON man!
whew... that's a lot of money. i wish i could have moochie's job and make that much. all i would have to do is grow an afro, wrestle with yao, and turn the ball over at the end of each quarter.
Moochie's contract is basically a reset of the Matt Maloney contract. What the hell were we thinking...?
wow Mulder, thanks for further pushing me into depression. I am going to go weep in a corner now. Stuart
