Does anyone know how to maintain shortcut icons in MIE in the favorites section.

Everytime I add a favorite, most sites have a customized ICON SHORTCUT that accompanies it when initially saved. However when I close the program and re-open it the icon is replaced with the standard MIE icon. Why doesn't the icon stay the same?

How can I make it so the standard Internet Explorer Icon does not show for each favorite when I re-open the program. In otherwords, how do I maintain the customized icons?

    Thanks

Go to your favorites folder. right click on the file, go to properties, go to change Icon, and if the original is ther click it otherwise, just search for a new icon and change it'

How do you SEARCH for an ICON, it only gives the standard icons in the DLL folder or whatever it is. SYSTEM32/WINDOWS I think?

The thing is it just goes to the standard folder with the icons given in the program. Then when I check the 4 CACHE folders in the temporary internet files I can't see the actual ICONS of the website (even though at first they apprear when I add them to my favorites (until I close the actual program, then they dissapear upon reopening it).

How do I save the icon, or even LOCATE it on a website? It doesn't pop up as an ICO until I add the website to my faorites. I cant seem to locate the actual ICO file in terms of URL and they arent in my TEMP INT FILES. What should I do?

Are you asking why there are times when the icon shows up in your Bookmarks and then disappears later?

It's a known bug with IE. It's also problematic with Firebird (which does kick total ass - switch over).

If its problematic for Firebird, why would that solve anything by switching over?

What are the benefits of Firebird?

Also, isn't Firebird less compatible with online java games or things of that sort of nature? Is it slower? How common is Firebird, and is it just as integrated and friendly with the Internet as MIE?

Also...is there anyway to fix the bug for MIE, since you mentioned it is common?

Yes, it's a known bug in Firebird. That's not the only reason to switch over.

There is another thread detailing the difference between Opera, IE, and Firebird. Check out the website... the big points are pop-up blocking (coming soon for IE in Windows XP SP2), tabbed browsing (I thought it was pointless, but now I'm HOOKED and couldn't go back), mouse gestures (don't use it, but others swear by it).

The newest additions to Firebird integrate with Java, from what I understand. Other standard plug-ins work fine for me, too.

Also, no one says you can't use both. Or just IE. IE is definitely serviceable. To each his own. :)

Sorry - the bug in IE with favorite icons is not fixed, and it probably won't be, from what Microsoft has stated publicly/released. Their focus right now is on security, which is why IE's updates in SP2 are related to that.

I used a little program called FavOrg on one of my old computers, and it seem to work well. I got it from PC MAG last time, but it seems they now want to charge a yearly fee to download freeware.

After doing a little searching, I was able to find FavOrg at This Site. The web page is in german(I think), but if you download the program, it is in english and should work just fine.
