    Magic's Shawn Kemp Suspended

NEW YORK, Feb. 11 -- The NBA announced Tuesday that Shawn Kemp of the Orlando Magic has been suspended without pay for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. Kemp’s suspension will begin with Tuesday's game between the Orlando Magic and the New Jersey Nets, and will continue until he has resumed full compliance with his treatment program.
The NBA, NBA teams and the NBPA are prohibited from publicly disclosing information regarding the testing or treatment of any NBA player in the program, other than to announce a player’s suspension or dismissal from the League.

Actually, I do feel sorry for Kemp since I have been a big Sonics fan from the days of Jack Sikma and Freddy Brown and remember Kemp coming in as skinny rookie with rail thin legs. Not to beat a dead horse by talking about his flock of illegitimate children but he never did show much common sense or self control over the course of his career and it is not surprising that it has come to this point. There were persistent rumors of alcoholism during his last few years with the Sonics and it was a pretty ugly divorce when he finally left for the Cavs after burning all bridges with Sonic's management. Sad tale indeed especially because the Sonics got stuck with Vin Baker as a result. Sometimes, there are NO winners.... :(

who keeps on reviving old threads?

    Oh, he did it again?

Anyhoo, man, I swear, Shawn Kemp plays summer basketball in the parks of Houston. You can find him over at this park on Hammerly, and Beltway 8. It is on the west side of town.

    He's been seen there...

not by me, but somebody told me.

Sean Kemp spent a LOT of time during the summer working out with John Lucas at Strake Jesuit. I never saw him, but my brother did almost daily.

It's too bad really. Sean Kemp was on his way to a DOMINANT NBA career. This guy was just unstoppable. He was an incredibly agressive and powerful player, but he had grace and touch too. Awesome rebounder -- reminded one of Mo Malone. Too bad it all fell apart . . .

    The scoop on this is:

He hasn't been busted for drugs.....yet. He missed the test. In other words, he didn't show up to pee in the cup.

I did hear that he is trying to reschedule it asap so he can clear his name, blah blah blah.

    We'll see.
