Ok, I've heard that those of us who play this game are the people that the D&D (dungeons and dragons) players make fun of. But the game is just too addictive to quit for me. So my question is, are there any other geeks on this board that likes this game. P.S. While there are a couple of "strange" people that plays this game, there are significant amount of people in the MTG community that I would considered "norma"l and in many cases more "normal" than most anime fanboy or D&D die hards. So I don't understand the negative connotation.
I played about 10 years ago when it first came out. Blue and red. 4 force of wills, ball of lightnings, and boomerangs!
maaaaaaaaaan. I apologize, but I am laughing sooo damn hard. I hate that game. I hate pokemon and yugioh, and all those other card games. It's probably because I don't know how to play, but still.
I used to play it in high school. I would play in the local tournaments and pro tour qualifiers. My best showing at a tournament was top 4 at a Mirage-Block Constructed PTQ. My deck was just perfect for the metagame. But a superior player beat me in the semi-finals with the help of a little bit of luck. After a while, I was just spending way too much money on playing. And nowadays I really don't have much time for it. I still check out www.starcitygames.com every once in a while just to see what's going on in the Magic community.
Pro Magic players?!? You kidding, right? I thought this game died a long time ago, I remember alot of "cool" kids playing during lunch instead of eating.
If you enjoy it, what does it matter if other people think it's dorky? Personally I never got that game. A friend tried to teach me for weeks but I could never wrap my head around it.
HAHA, My nerd friends and I used to play many years ago when it first came out... I think I still have a set of the power 10 and a few sets of revised and others a bunch of dual lands and a few boxes of unopened crap... Oh the days of playing in a basketball tournament then right after going to play in a magic tournament..
yea i played it alot when i was little, started playing it again about 2 yrs ago, but now i just dont have time any more.
Don't you mean Power "9". Unless you're counting Library of Alexandria. You could sell that stuff for some nice cash. There's been a revitalization of Type 1 the past couple of years. And since they've never been reprinted, a set of power cards would be in high demand.
I think one of the top players made around 60k a year playing the game during his college years. There are people that make a ok living playing this game, I know I'm not skilled enough
I remember going to that dumb Pokemon movie and getting one of the promotional free trading cards, and then the next day I solid it at the swap meet for 12 bucks.
considering this is one of them (if you have it), and it went for $200+ http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=49194&item=5953342920&rd=1 Here's the most expensive card I think http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=49194&item=5951918964&rd=1 Just do a completed listing search with power 9. Some old stuff went to the crapper in terms of value but some are just insane right now.
Here's a complete set on Ebay going for over $2500: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=49189&item=5954251884&rd=1 If those are the same cards that you've got, then yes, you do have over a grand worth of cardboard.
