Rockets have 29 games left for the season - they lead the Minnesota Timberwolves (who is currently in 9th seed) by 5.5 games which gives them a magic number of 23.5. So let's get this MAGIC NUMBER DOWN BABY and get in the play-offs and show them the TRUE HEART of the CHAMPIONS! I know I know this is kinda far fetched and quite a bit too far but it is closer than most of us think it is.
HMMMMM.... We're 32-21 right now-- I would say 50 games would be safe.... we need to win 18 out of the 29 (18-11 record after Allstar weekend)
To start the math argument: A magic number can't include fractions. The Rockets currently have 32 wins. Minnesota has 27 losses. When those numbers add up to 83 (the total number of games plus one), it will be impossible for the Wolves to catch the Rockets. Therefore, the current magic number is 83 minus 59, or 24.
Any mathematicians out there can crach the magic number for the #4 seed? That's not too early, is it? And it sure will be interesting to know.
Hmm, though I'm sratching my head how you came up with 24, 56 wins got to make the top 4. By the way, thanks
The " " was meant to say, "I haven't the foggiest idea, but I'll throw a number up there and see if it sticks!" It's a total guess, but, like you, I figure 55 or 56 gives us a good shot , provided we beat the teams above us. 55 or 56 could/should even get us to #3. Considering the guys have won 19 of the last 25, asking them to finish 24-5 is steep, especially considering strength of opponents. They'd have to duplicate their latest 12-2 run TWICE just to get the 24 wins. OUCH! A couple weeks ago I thought 50 wins would be great with the way the season started. They should get there and perhaps even 52.
Don't shoot too high! If we go 15-14 the rest of the way, we would be 47-35! Now, if someone tells me that if someone before the season began was going to guarantee you a 47-35 record this year that guarantees us the playoffs, and that you would not be excited, then you are an F****** LIAR! Our goal should simply be to play .500 or better the rest of the way. That will be good enough.
I agree and I disagree. It will certainly be "good enough" if we play .500 ball the rest of the way, however, the real goal is to prepare for the playoffs, and .500 ball doesn't get it done in the playoffs, particularly against the opponents we will be facing. There won't be any nights off against the Hawks, Clippers, or ( ) the Bobcats. We need to get ready for the playoffs and a BIG part of that is beating the teams we will be seeing in late April, May, and (crosses fingers) June regularly. 15-14 might be good enough to make the playoffs, but it will not be preparing us to win in the playoffs.
Well we are 4 games out of the #4 seed. But here is the issue - Dallas - 16 Away games, 15 Home Games 19 games vs. teams over .500 (31 games left) Houston - 16 Away games, 13 Home Games 18 games vs. teams over .500 (29 games left) So it is going to be an upward battle, but you know if they can pull it off, and win on the road it will help them when it comes to play off time.
GO ROCKETS!!! If we can somehwo beat the Sonics and Spurs this week..WOW man I'll be amazed. btw..it'd be nice to trade mo

Thank god they're not going to be playoffs. I would be downright scared if we met them in the finals.
