How come Magic does not seem to have any problems at all from his HIV infection? I am just looking at his interview on Conan O'Brien...and he seems completely fine. Isn't it like 12 years ago since he announced his HIV infection? Is medication already so advanced...how come they could apparently suppress the virus so much that it has not developed into AIDS yet? Just wondering...it seems like that topic has completely vanished from the public's attention...

I was wondering the same thing. But other people who have HIV don't have the money Magic has to afford all this medication.

Someone tried to tell me recently that Magic was doing so well that he could even pass an HIV test now...I don't know if that is true or not, but if so, that is amazing...

I heard that the costs of the medicine cocktails that he has taken over the years have dramatically dropped.. Can anyone provide some good info on this?

You also have to consider that he was a world class athlete and that not all people are as susceptible to catching viruses as others.

oh yeah, and he has lots of $.

The was I understand it is that apparently he has been testing 'HIV Free' for a while now. So, a few years back when he thought he was 'cured,' he went off his medication assuming the virus was completely absent. It soon was detected and back on the medication he went.

What I learned about his medication is that it does surpress the virus; it prevents it from spreading, so he is essentially healthy while on the medication, barring a chemical change in the actual virus (which is very complicated).

I was told that the virus is 'stored' in areas that are just undetectable such as parts of the spine or brain so that attempting to remove a possible virus causing/spreading area would be virtually impossible.

If anyone else has any more information (or correction) about his case, it would be interesting to know.

The way most HIV tests are done is by a T-cell count. His T Cell level is okay right now, so basically he doesn't even have HIV.

Won't he get hit hard when he gets older regardless of medication? I guess I'm wondering if he is just going to live a full life as if HIV had no impact on his body OR it is going to hit him hard later in life?

I only thought you could keep it in check for so long with a cocktail of meds?

My sister is HIV+ and has been for 11 years. She is not rich and spends a lot of money on the drugs. I heard from my mom that she also tests negative. We don't talk about it much so thats about all the info I have.

HIV+ is one thing, it just means you have the virus. AIDS is when the virus starts attacking the immune system. There are drugs you can take which help to keep the HIV from becoming aggressive and progressing into aids. Because AIDS is so new the effectiveness of these drugs is not known. Also, this is why many people have HIV for years and never know and give it to hundreds of other people.
