can't wait to bring this guy to town! The whole organization and fans are excited! we didn't think he would still be there! But he was! lol we held are breath with every pick! It's a great day! he will be an awesome player!
Thats a huge frontcourt. Nice pick by Orlando they need a PG badly. 2nd round they got Zaur Pachulia, what do you think of that?
Orlando got lucky big time. I think other than the top 3 or 4 picks they are the only one to have gotten the precise player they have been coveting since the season ended.
Great draft by Orlando. They should be happy. I thought getting Gaines was great for them. Gaines and T-Mac backcourt looks scary! If they add a frontcourt player via the MLE they are right in the hunt next year. Bogans in the second round might be a nice addition as a guard off the bench.
I know it sounds like a stretch to some, but Reece Gaines is in a situation where it's possible for him to win ROY. Backcourt of him and Giricek and T-Mac, with Gooden at the 4 is a very young, very talented team. It almost negates the fact that they have no interior presence.
And yes, I didn't forget about LeBron or Melo or Darko or anyone else. But Reece Gaines can compete with these people for ROY on this team!
THAT'S WHAT IM SAYING! I THINK HE CAN COMPETE FOR THE ROY! BUT PEOPLE ARE CALLING ME CRAZY! THE BIG GUY WE GOT LOOKS LIKE A BEAST TO BLOCK SOME SHOTS! MAGIC 03-04 EASTERN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS! BELIEVE BABY! GAINES WILL MATCH UP WITH THE PG'S WHO HAVE SLAUGHTERED US IN THE PAST 3 PLAYOFF MATCHUPS...CASSELL, BARON, BILLUPS ALL KILLED US... BUT NOT NO MORE! THIS IS SO GREAT! ADD A BIG MAN AND WE ARE CHALLENGING!
Even without a good C for the Magic, they should be able to make it in the pathetic Eastern Conference. Steven Hunter has proven to be a competent center, and that's all they need. Barring any injuries, the Magic are looking really good this year. REECE GAINES FOR ROY! (Just to show that substance beats out hype any day)
Orlando is looking good even with Hill's absence...If Hill can't make it this year..he should just retire...
He he he.....That's classic, Kidrock! Just for making me laugh, I won't ask you why you are...well...you know. I still think the Magic need help if they are to be considered a favorite in the east. Don't get me wrong, the east is crap, and a team on a run can reach the finals. I mean, who knows how far Orlando could have gone if the first round was still best of 5?? Anyway, the D is pretty solid, but they really need someone to help take scoring pressure off of T-Mac. I mean, what the hell does Doc draw on the erase board at halftime? KEYS FOR THE SECOND HALF: 1) Pass the ball to T-Mac. 2) Watch him try to score. 3) Collect missed shots, and pass back to T-Mac. 4) Repeat. I really like Gooden as well, but the Magic need to become more than McGrady and a bunch of mediocre role players if they want to go to the next level.
The problem I have with Gooden is that he is a blackhole. As soon as he gets the ball inside, it ain't coming back out. Orl needs more shooters.
Gordon Giricek proved last year that he can fill it up, even if he isn't as consistent as Doc Rivers would like him to be. Gooden is the garbage man and can clean the boards and put em back up. Reece Gaines should be the 2nd or 3rd option behind T-Mac and MAYBE Giricek. It's a solid team, scoring shouldn't be too big a problem this year.
That's the last thing the Magic need. They were a team initally - until the Gooden trade - built around McGrady and a bunch of shooters. That failed. As it is, they still have a load of shooters: Garrity, Giricek, Armstrong, et al. Even a bench role player or two - like Pat Burke - was brought in to provide shooting. What they need is another scorer, not more shooters. Someone who can create his own shot and can take the pressure off of McGrady. Potentially, Gaines may be able to do that. I don't buy any of this Gaines for ROY talk, though. The Magic will likely bring in another guard in free agency (and keep Darrell Armstrong) to challenge for the point guard position. I don't know where all of these other Magic fans are coming from, either. This is a Rockets board! Most people here don't care about every little move the team from Orlando makes, even in the NBA forum. I'm a Magic fan first myself, but you have to go with the flow of the board. Plus, there are many other places to talk Magic basketball than here.
If they added a decent center like Kandi or Mourning, they could easily take the East. Maybe add some veteran depth at the 4 to help in rebounding. I like their chances. Kidd is as good as gone and so is Walker from Boston. Who else would compete, maybe Detroit.
