Never thought I'd start a thread on this board, much less a baseball one ... But WABC out of NYC is reporting that Greg Maddux is heading to the Yankees. Reason 9,234,222,573 to give up on baseball. Division leaders in the NBA? Indianapolis, East Rutherford, Sacramento, Minneapolis.
the rumor has made its way to espn.com now. If this is true their payroll wil shatter the 200mil mark.
That is such a great image! I'm gonna daydream for awhile The man is destroying baseball. He's taking a bat to it, at any rate.
You know, I don't really believe in curses or superstition...but I'm pretty sure that if there is any kind of Bambino curse, in any shape or form, it is fueled by posts like this. Because the Bambino curse would not be nearly as fun to discuss if you still didn't have Red Sox fans like Nomar.
Sox fans are like those idiots who chant "Beat El-Lay." Instead of trying to pump up their team, they think about the opponent until it drives them silly. Nothing like basing yr entire existence on the fortunes of another ballclub. Get over it.
wow that would be absolutely insane if that was true the arod deal is fine since they did have to give up one of the best young hitters around to get arod, but if they are able to sign maddux too then it will just be stupid. baseball needs to either establish a might tighter luxury tax or implement a salary cap of some sort i was listening to someone on the radio make the point that the yanks have no problem with the luxury tax, but its actually teams like a boston who get close to it and cant go over it because of the penalty. the yanks can keep their hands in the fire while other teams can't it needs to be some sort of an escalating luxury tax to where it gets ridiculous after a certain point.
Thank the goodness mission control is in Houston, because it looks like the Yankees are on a mission with permission. Bud sucks! Go Astros!!
No big deal. Maddux is a shell of his former self. And I agree with Nomar, the Yankees will not make it to the World Series this year. They will be lucky to make the playoffs. Even if Maddux has a decent year, their pitching is very suspect.
And of course the announcer at the Rockets game tried to start a stupid Beat El Lay chant during the game on Wed. So weak. Better on the Yanks than on the Cubs.
i beg to differ...beat LA is a chant done virtually everywhere around the country...they used to do it in boston relentlessly when the celts would scrap with them...i remember it being huge during the WCF of 86...i generally agree with the idea that focusing on the other team is weak...but for some reason that has become a tradition with the Lakers. beat l.a. it's just so simple...its' great.
I know my Padres pursued Maddux early on (he has a house in San Diego), but he was too expensive hence they went after Wells. If tha Yankees just sign him to a year or two then i think it is a nice pickup but if they give him a 3-4 year deal then "They blew it". I'm still not sold he'll goto the Yanks. I have heard the Dodgers new GM wants to talk to him
espn has reported that the dodgers are backing away...but i really felt he was west coast bound at the end of the season..he's from vegas..i figured he'd go out that way.
Dude, we're talking about the New York Yankees, not your local little league team. They have a lineup of all-stars and at the very least, average pitching(w/o Maddux). True, Maddux is a shell of his former self, but he can still take care of business and with a lineup as potent as the Yankees, he'll have plenty of run support. With or without Maddux, the Yankees will make the playoffs.
