Isn't it amazing how the refs actually allowed the players to play back then. The players fall a couple of times, and there were a lot of shoving and pushing.

Give respect to those in the 70s,80s and 90s. They play with real toughness, take real beating, and don't have the official's back in every home game.

Everything I just said does not apply for Jazz.

It took time for a team to gel back in the day. The Rockets or Bulls, they slowly added pieces to the puzzle and believed in their coach's philosophy.

The Jordan/Dream success starts with getting teammates they can trust on offense and defense.

My goodness! Carl Landry got shot, the President is black, Chris Brown hit Rihanna, the economy is at a all time low, we got beat by the Jazz and you want to bring up Mad Max during a time like this?! What does Mad Max jawing with MJ have to do with the season?! He hasn't played in years. These videos from the 30s won't help us win a championship.

There's two things I love about these videos, besides the Rockets beating the Bulls:

    1. The amount of physicality that didn't get called. Perhaps the best example is when Kenny Smith takes the inbounds pass. He and the defender are tied up completely, wrestling for position. Today, there's no way refs let that go.

    2. The absence of background music. You can hear the shoes squeak on the hardwood. There's no blaring dance music when the players are bringing it up.

Thanks for the nostalgia. Man, seeing OT reminded me of what a solid player he was, and how much I took him for granted. Especially when you consider all our PF shortcomings we started having after he left. One of the things he was great at was his outlet passes after the rebound, and especially his accurate one handed bombs he'd throw on occasion when someone managed to sneak beyond the defense. We got a lot of easy layups that way.

Maybe tinman should create an OT Appreciation Thread.

Maybe in the off season I will. OT is one of favorite Rockets and he was one of the first Rockets Dream trusted playing with post Ralph Sampson.

That first Rockets championship team had an awesome front line, Horry, Dream and OT. We had size, length, defense, athleticism and toughness.

Are you talking about Ron Artest? Dude is a great player but compared to what Mad Max showed, Artest at best is remake, not as special as the original but it has its strong points.

Although if we had a competitor on Mad Max's level and talent, he'd be ranked up there with LeBron, Kobe and Wade.

I know they are two different players, but the similarities are the toughness and defense.

I don't know if can trust Artest shooting 3s in crunch time, but I always trust Max!

Hopefully Artest can write a new chapter in the playoffs for the Rockets.
