Forgive me if this has been posted. My friend Dan asked me just the other day if I had any idea where Vernon Maxwell was these days. I said he probably worked at a restaurant. He said he thought he was playing in Europe. We were both wrong... http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/2501147 Former Rocket arrested on child support charges Associated Press GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Retired NBA star and former Florida standout Vernon Maxwell was being held today on a felony charge of failure to pay about $160,000 in child support. State Attorney Bill Cervone said today that figure also includes interest through last fall for the 14-year-old son Maxwell has with Myra Jenkins of Gainesville. The two met at a Gainesville high school in the 1980s, but are not married, Jenkins said. Maxwell, 38, of Alpharetta, Ga., was being held on several bonds totaling $126,612, Alachua County Jail officials said. One $108,000 bond is cash only, which means he would have to pay the entire amount to be freed, not the usual 10 percent paid to a bail bondsman, Cervone said. "He has shown a history of failure to meet his responsibilities in the support of his children," Lt. Jim Troiano of the Alachua County Sheriff's Office said Monday. There was no record available on who was representing Maxwell, Cervone said. At his initial court appearance Saturday, Maxwell said he planned to hire a private attorney. Maxwell was extradited from Cobb County, Ga., on Friday, where he had been arrested on unrelated charges, police said. Police in Georgia were set to release Maxwell after he posted bond, but they contacted authorities in Alachua County after discovering he was wanted in Florida. Maxwell played in the NBA for several teams throughout his 13-season basketball career before retiring in 2002. His biggest success came in 1994 and 1995 when he helped Houston capture back-to-back championships. Maxwell played for the Gators in the 1980s and was named All-Southeastern Conference from 1986-88. He has had other legal problems before. In 1997, a warrant was issued for his arrest for nonsupport. He got a 90-day jail sentence for mar1juana possession in 1995 in Houston. He also has been convicted on various counts of battery and assault, and was fined numerous times by the NBA for fighting with other players and with fans.
You can have a championship ring or be on a championship team....but if you dont take care of your kid(s), you're still a loser.
Wait, I didn't know MAD MAX was in Game Action and Roster Moves... or is it that Vernon is gettin' some "action" and making some illegal "moves"??
If it says we can talk about ex-rocket Tracy Murray.....Then we can talk about Mad Max. We wouldn't have won the first championship without him. We wouldn't have won the second with him. Ironic.
Unlike Eddie Griffin we got a few good years out of Maxwell. Its really sad. When you look at guys like Eddie Griffin to think all that talent wasted.
