Just made the purchase at the campus computer store in Austin, waiting for it to be delivered to Houston. I've always used a PC. Anyone have any bad experiences with the MacBook Pro? Anyone enjoying using it? I guess I'm having second thoughts about my purchase because it still runs on Core 2 Duo. However, I don't use laptops for gaming or entertainment. Usually for school work and social networking. I might have to do some small video work in the future, but nothing too intense. I'm making the switch from an HP Pavilion dv6000 which is about 3 years old (15.4"). So I guess some general questions I have about it- Is the MacBook Pro 13 sufficient for a student? Has anyone experienced any problems with this model? I guess I'm asking for the general opinion in order to ease my transition to using a Mac. Thanks
I came over from the PC world last year but have the Macbook Pro 15 and I truly love it. My little cousin just got the 13 and it's really good for students in my opinion. If your not gaming you will be more than pleased with the speed and fluidness of the macbook and the OS.
I love my MBP13. Best little computer I've ever owned. I can even run TF2 on it pretty well. The multitouch touchpad is the bomb.
it's amazing how much more effortless it is using a macbook than a laptop... we have two laptops at the house (one is a yr old the other about 2.5) nobody will touch them if the mac is available. it's just ridiculous how much more bogged down the pc's become.
Lifelong PC guy. Last year I switched to a Macbook Pro 15. Love it. No comparison. It's like switching from condoms to bareback, without the chance of disease or pregnancy.
I switched from a life of PCs to the MB13 last year... absolutely love it and won't ever go back. I even partitioned my Mac's HD and installed Windows 7 for those apps that do not work on OS X...
I have had my macbook 13 for 1 1/2 years and have had no problems at all. It runs really smooth. It is pricey but it is well worth the investment.
I'll take the under, though with reservation since we're preceding it with this comments. You'll love the computer for those uses. Don't let others get you down with their anti-mac/apple rhetoric, you're going to enjoy it.
One word of advice. If you're in doubt; overspend. I got the standard MBP13 that comes to the store in the box. I was debating ordering one from Apple with a larger HD, but I decided that 160GB would be enough. I was wrong. Now, even though I have an Applecare policy good through 2012, in order to get a new HD put in, I have to take it to an "authorized technician" and have him put in a new HD, which voids my Applecare for the HD, and then I'm stuck with the 3rd party manufacturers warranty. If I tried to replace it myself I'd void my policy entirely. It's kind of a headache. I was trying to give Apple money to give me a new HD, but they refused. Weird.
I'm confused. You thought applecare would include a new HD? Or just installation? Also, I guess I see the point about the applecare issue regarding the new hd coverage, but really, most drives are going to last 3+ years, many have a warranty for that much... I'm not sure it's as much as a concern as you make it out to be, except in principle I suppose. Also, if you're voiding your applecare on the drive anyway, why do you have to take it to a specific technician (and why NOT just do it yourself, if it's going to void that aspect anyway)? Just curious. Can't you just get it done at the applestore? I mean that, as I really don't know. I suppose Microcenter could do it, I have had them work on a couple of machines in the past with no trouble. yeah, anyway, curious.
what about mac desktops though, how do they compare to PCs? the premium on those worth it? (not including the macs that use ips monitors)
Neither. I thought Apple would be able to service my request. i.e. Sell me a HD compatible with the machine, and install it for a fee, while keeping my entire applecare policy intact. But instead they want to bring a 3rd party into the picture, and muck up my warranty.
