I purchased a Macbook last month and it already has a ton of spam ware. I was told Mac's don't have this problem and I never had this problem on my Windows machine.Ive installed the latest software updates, run clamxav but STILL HAVE POPUPS AND RANDOM GREEN HIGHLIGHTS on every other page I go to. my software consists of many cam, microsoft office and a few photo editing apps. any and all help requested Spoiler
Your problem is you believed that **** about Macs not getting viruses. False garbage perpetuated by Apple fanboys. I have a few clients that are entirely Mac based, no one in our office likes dealing with them. They all use Windows based servers too...derp derp.
I'd help more but I'm at work; hopefully this is of use: http://www.thesafemac.com/mac-anti-virus-testing-2014/
What makes this more annoying is that the people I've asked before this, who are "mac" people, shake their heads and say no, you can't get spam ware on macs. I must have downloaded some kind of illegal software
Have had a PC all my life and a mac for 4 years, have none of those problems on either platform. Sometimes you need to check your chair to PC interface connection, that is usually the cause of problems on either platform.
This website talks about the problem, albeit on Windows. Looks like you got it from something you installed, app or extension. http://malwaretips.com/blogs/green-double-underlined-ads-removal/ This guy supposedly has the same problem and has a fix http://www.1201.com/blog/post/2014/04/02/Holy-crap-its-a-MAC-virus!.aspx
I use Mac and windows and don't have a problem really with either. I don't look at p*rn sites though that probably helps.
Ummm...I'm thinking the green highlights can be turned off as it is probably highlighting links that you've clicked on before. Also: This whole "I've been told Macs don't get spam/virus" should have been stopped YEARS ago. That's like saying "I bought a Toyota because they never get recalled". And this is coming from a Mac user.
YUP, THAT DOES IT.... until the next Mac problem I have. Think the VirusBarrier software also found the VSearch bug. Thanks Clutchfans!!!
You have be an idiot, for the most part, to get virus and spyware on your Mac. Why? Because you have to approve and say "yes" to install anything on a Mac.
Generally, computer users can find the cause of any virus, malware or adware by looking in the mirror.
Amazing how dramatic some people can be. Pizza said it best.... did you check the loose nut between the seat and the keyboard? Anyone that makes uninformed bad decisions on what they install on their computer is subject to the results of those bad decisions. This is not an OS vulnerability. This has nothing to do with what platform you're on. No one likes dealing with them due prevalence in the workplace, traditional standards and training in IT, and mob mentality, not because of actual inferiority / superiority. Funny when that group gets hyped up about fanboys, when they seem worse than anyone about it.
You're entitled to your opinion, and I'm entitled to mine. My opinion is they're overpriced, underpowered, and generally do things the hard way when there's a much more simple solution. You're welcome. Did you know you have to void a warranty on a Mac just to upgrade the memory in it? I had to upgrade a Mac's video card, for a last gen video card that costs about $200 yet the mac equivalent is $500. Yeah...nothing wrong there. My best guess is you're offended because I just insulted your iphone and ipad.
