I want to buy a new Mac laptop mainly for business. It doesn't need to be the top of the line or anything. I'm thinking a 14" iBook would do just fine. Just wondering if anyone had suggestions on places to purchase refurbished or something like that rather than buying one brand new. Not sure I want to go the Ebay route on this one.
if you can find someone in college and have them use their student ID i think it'll knock off a couple hundred bucks.
I've got an 800mhz G4 12" iBook that I'm thinking of selling. I use it all the time, but I just bought a new Thinkpad for law school, and I can't justify keeping the Mac. 500 bucks and she's yours. Email me at itaintme@gmail.com. Oh, and if you get a new iBook, I really prefer the 12" to the 14". Better battery life, and the screen resolution is the same (1024x768).
I prefer my 15" powerbook to my wife's 12" inch iBook. I refuse to try to do any real work on her iBook but I can use my powerbook for everything.
Macs don't depreciate as fast as PCs. They also cost more in general. This is because you can only get them from one vendor, and the demand for both new and used macs is high enough to sustain the higher prices. Not to mention a 500 PC laptop is a dog. Built-in video, small hard drive, heavy, crappy screen, skimpy peripherals, and slow. I wouldn't want to use any PC laptop everyday that cost less than 1200 bucks.
Get the 12" powerbook. I had a 15" powerbook, bought it used for 900 bucks on eBay and resold it 15 months later for 1,000 with some limewire downloaded software on it
