    TextEdit:
I really like the simplicity of this program. When I open a .doc file into TextEdit, it often has a zoom percentage box in the lower right hand corner. When I open a new document, that box isn't there. And I can't figure out how to put it there. And it's driving me crazy. How do I get that zoom box to stay there permanently?

    Firefox:
In Firefox in XP, Ctrl+H took me straight to my homepage. Doesn't work the same with FF in OSX, and this also drives me nuts and Google doesn't help. I've got to be missing something simple I would think....

More as I think of them....

It's Command(key with the apple on it) + Home (left arrow key if you're using macbook)

Thanks, but no it's not: that just takes me back a page.

It's not Command+H, which just hides the app I'm working in, and it's not Command+Home because....I don't have a Home key. They're on the full-size keyboards but not on my MacBook.

That just brings up the history.

No, but I might get it eventually. TextEdit has really surprised me with its simplicity. I really like it and I'd like it even more if I could figure out how to get that zoom box there in the bottom right corner.

I tried OpenOffice and didn't really care for it.

Oh sorry that is what the command is for safari. i think for firefox the only command is command+home so if you really want to you can set a shortcut for home in system prefereces i believe.

    Try fn + alt/option + home/left arrow keys

    (that's 3 keys)

Wups... forgot about your TextEdit question :

Go to Preferences and under New Document, enable, "Wrap to page". You may have to shut TextEdit down and start it up again, but there should be a %age zoom in the bottom right when you start.

    That seems awfully convoluted.
Either way, both of them worked. Many thanks, man!

    +1 rep to you.
