I find myself almost infatuated with the BMW M5. I want one as soon as I get out of college and get a real job. Yeah? Yeah.
If you first job out of college affords you the luxury of purchasing an M5, congratulations. Great Cars.
To get a car like that you probably have to be making 6 figures. It costs over 70k. So you have to be making well over 100k, unless you want to work most of the day just to pay for your car.
The M5 was innovative when it was original. Now cars like the Audi RS6 and the Mercedes E55 AMG can take it. They really need to update the M5 - it's getting a bit dated. Of course with the crazy ass designs coming out of BMW lately, I'd be scared to think what it would look like.
my friend is a mechanic at the BMW in Austin. he says that a new model will be out either at the end of the year or in the spring that is a V10. I was currently thinking about trading in my car and getting a M5 if the stock market picks up.
Yup, it's going to be 500+ hp. I didn't know it was around the corner. I thought it was still a year or two away. Cool. I still think BMW destroyed one of the most beautiful body-designs in a sedan when they changed the 5-series shape. The next-generation 5-series is rather umm... goofy looking.
What's the point of getting these crazy ass expensive cars just for the high horse power that they have? If you wanted speed, you'd get an asian car in the mid price range. For example, take the Nissan 350Z. It costs something in the 30K's. Buy a turbo kit (not expensive at all) and you'll be smoking M3's and M5's and anything in between...no sweat! But if you're one of those "I want status and profile so I want something german made", then the M3 is waaaaaaaay better looking than the M5. Plus, it's about 25K cheaper. Somehow I feel M5's and 7 series are made for old white men to drive their mistresses around downtown.
I'd go for the M3, for the sportier type car. M5's are nice though, so if you can afford it, go for it!
Yeah, but why even spend money on a 350Z? Get some used Z28 or something and soup the crap out of it. The difference is obvious. Why are some coins valued more than others even though in today's currency they're worthless? Why the hell are comic books or trading cards worth anything other than their face value? Many things more rare have more prestige assigned to it because of their rarity (or so society says) and demand can dictate the price. It's like guys driving Mustangs saying they can run 12 seconds 1/4's and could smoke Ferrari's. Yeah, and? It's still a Mustang, and it's still a Ferrari. My dream car right now is the Mercedes SL55 AMG.... it's only like $113k. *EDIT* : unless you count the Enzo, the Murcielago, the McLaren F1, and the Saleen S7, it's my dream car anyway.
M5's are pretty sweet but they cost a pretty penny. right now, i'd rather get the M3, i think they just look cooler. my pops is thinking about getting an '04 SL55 AMG Benz (he's on some sort of waiting list i think). if he gets it, i'm gonna steal it from him. mark my words. that thing is f*ckin rad. really, really rad. seriously man...... rad. EDIT: you have very good taste DoD .
In my opinion, the best car for your money in the 35K range is the Infiniti G35. Get the most bang for your buck.
I'm not getting a car any time soon, but there's three new cars I'm interested in, or at least would like to know more about. I've seen the Murano in person, and it's quite intersting. It looks a lot bigger than it really is, and has a cute interior (I wasn't sure you could call a car interior cute, but I did). Unfortunately there's this huge stylized blindspot. Also, I saw the new Volvo SUV, but wasn't really impressed. Really only seemed like a Highlander and a X5 put together. What I REALLY like is the new Nissan Z. It looks like an awesome car. It's the best (new) design I've ever seen on a sports car in a loooong time. There's a lot of chrome which makes it more appealing.
