What mods, if any do you have on your mustang? Do you run it at the track, stop light to stop light, or is it stock. Just wondering because I've been modding my 92 slightly and wanted to know if you have any ideas.
Mustang, huh? Any suggestions for a green '67? Or offers... It's just collecting dust, but it does drive.
After being on a college-student budget for 6 years, my 'Stang (an '88 GT hatch chassis with '93 engine and interior) is now on a college-student-loan-payback budget. Honestly most of my mods have been maintenance over the years, but I've got a few goodies: Bilstein suspension all-around MAC shorties MAC off-road H-pipe King Cobra clutch Hurst Shifter 3-core radiator and I took my pullies off due to cooling and charging problems, but I'll put them back on once I get a 3G alternator. I definitely lean more toward road racing than straight-line drag racing, but due to my (still) limited funds, I don't run it as hard as I used to 'cause I simply can't afford to have something break. Of course, that doesn't mean I don't get on it when those ricers want to give me sh*t. I've also recently put on a Stalker front bumper from Cervini's. Looks a lot better than the stock piece. What about you?
Falcon: Are you mechanically inclined and in Houston? I need to tear apart my dash to change my heater core and A/C evaporator before it gets too hot. I'm fairly certain I can do it myself, but hey, two heads are better than one.
Lynus, I replied to the address you sent me (re: shirts). I'll be gone offline for awhile, so just reply when you get a chance.
It's this, but dark green: It drives, but you wouldn't believe the dust. It was my dad's first car and he won't get ri of it, but he won't drive it either. So it sits there, like it has for years. But it was fixed up at a place in Bellaire, can't think of the name, near the Fox Sports Net is all I can remember. That was about 5 years ago. I would LOVE to drive it, but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon.
Dust is easy. Go out and dust the damn thing! And WHY won't your dad drive such a classic car?? Why won't he let you drive it? You say its fixed up, but are you referring to the motor, the body, or both?
I do most of the work on my car myself. The one time I had to take it to a shop was when the oil pump shaft snapped. I didn't have a lift to pull the motor out to replace the oil pump. I recently pulled the heads off and had them shaved while replacing all the lifter and pushrods. The mods in my car right now are relatively minor things...removed air silencer, k&n box filter, auto specialties underdrives, black magic electric fan, 3-row radiator, 3G alternator, removed air pump and cats, short belt...I've had to keep her mostly stock because I drive about 30 miles a day to and from work, and I don't want to get eaten up on mileage. In storage, I have a set of BBK ceramic coated longtubes, matching BBK short offroad h-pipe, Explorer (GT-40) upper and lower intake, 65mm frpp throttle body and 67mm egr spacer. When I out these on, I'll be advancing the timing to about 14 degrees. Future mods include either a B or E cam (I still haven't decided) GT-40's or Trick Flow heads, stronger valve train, and 3:73's in the rear, but I think I'll take her into the shop for that...too many special tools to do that job in the driveway. I'll also be looking for an improved ignition system, a 77mm maf, aluminum driveshaft, a pair of dynomax ultraflo weld mufflers, and then I'll hit either the body work or the suspension... If the motor craps out on me, I'll probablt replace it with a 306 or a 331 and put it on the juice... Unfortunately, I don't live in Houston...I live in the Rio Grande Valley. I know what you mean about using the money for maintenance and being kind to the old 302... I also know what you mean about opening her up on obnoxious ricers... In the end, I want to keep her looking bone stock. The exhaust is the quitest setup I can think of so I won't tip anyone off as to anything other than a mild stock 302 under the hood. If you have any questions about the 3g swap, feel free to ask. I did mine in about 30 minutes. I bought the alternator at a junk yard about 4 months ago for $40.00...the cost of a core at auto zone. I haven't had a problem with it. Good luck on the heater core change. I know that that is one of the most dreaded changes in fox body history...or so I've heard... BTW, that stalker is a nice piece!!! I would like to maybe go with something subtle on the hood...I was thinking maybe an SVO hood...I'm also looking into a latching fiberglass hatch...rust is starting to eat mine up...
Sounds like you've got most of your stuff together with some nice mods. I do like the Stalker piece. The only other exterior mods I want are a Cobra rear bumper with LX pipes and a 1.5"-2.0" hood scoop. Nothing radical, but just enought to set it apart. The engine is whole other story, of course. Some day soon, man. Some day soon.
(editing would be so nice) I've got the K&N with no silencer as well. I'm actually in the process of getting the car smog-legal again. The older I get the more conscious I get, I suppose. The first things I've got to do: hook my EGR stuff up again and get a cat-back X-pipe (I'm going with Bassani there). The next step with probably be bigger mass air and throttlebody to start with, then the ignition (either Crane or MSD) and gears to 3.73s. I hate the 2.73s I have now but they saved my ass on gas in college. I want to get some serious stuff from Griggs Racing to go with my Bilsteins....they've got un-freaking-believeable suspension kits at Griggs, if you didn't already know. Once all that's done, its off to intake (Cobra), cam (the B cam is my favorite....the E cam is a bit much for me), and heads (probably twisted wedge. Hell, maybe I'll need the E cam.) I do want the GT-40 Long Block, so i might get that crate motor that comes with GT-40 heads....but I really like those Trick Flows. I've recently replaced my weather stripping, dew wipes, and a few other things....just a bunch of little crap that all adds up, as I'm sure you know. I've got a company car now (an '03 Focus). Not much, but it gets me where I need to go and I don't have to put my 'real' car through rush-hour stop and go traffic every day anymore. Let me know if you happen to come into Houston. Got any pics of your Mustang? If so, email them to Lynus302@yahoo.com.
I'll wash it this weekend, or next week (if I can get it out of dormancy). It looks sweet when clean. It works, but it's sooo unsafe; I don't even know how it's street legal, heh. I love the classic cars that have only one side mirror. The engine works, and the transmisison and body are already its second. I'll get pics sometime hopefully in the next few weeks.
All domestics are pieces of trash, period. There's nothing worse than a big, slow, heavy piece of trash made in america. This goes for Harleys too.
I also can't resist opening it up on people like you. I won't deny a bad-ass import; a great car is a great car. Would you care to substantiate your claim with any information?
I guess you are a big import fan eh? Toyota, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Honda? Guess what? A great # of imports sold in America are built in American factories, ON American soil, BY American workers. In fact, you might want to check the VIN# of the import that I am assuming you drive. Because unless the 1st digit of the VIN starts with either a J or a W, then the vehicle is AMERICAN MADE. The name may be foreign, but the vehicle is American. You get 5, count em, 5 of these:
