Are we really there yet? Does anyone know the exact figures? If we are there I think the trades to get better players everyone proposes are BS. Les will not pay that tax for another average player. More likely to say goodbye to future draft picks ala Rice.

Thanks. What is the Lux tax# anyway? You don't count Scola or Francis. Sura should count as 1 mil. I hadn't even realized that we had resigned Head. What about Mutombo.

    Damn..I meant Hayes.

So his potential salary would count too should we sign him. I think we will.

So we will most definately be over it if we sign Deke and Hayes. Something will have to give. I just don't see how we don't resign Hayes with our hole at PF/backup PF.

I agree with you except that the Rockets will not look to trade picks they will trade for picks in order to get fresher talent for bargain prices.

Who will give us picks for our garbage? I hope Moray pulls another rabbit out of his hat. Phoe had to give up 2 #1 picks to get rid of a pretty good player.

That is because we haven't resigned him. His rookie deal like Brooks' runs for 5-years.

The LT is the reason why people wanted to unload Alston, but Alston's value is also lowballed by Rockets' LT situation.

best solution: keep Alston and let Les pay the money. :D

BTW, the source is from here:

Think outside the box a little. With Sura, Alston, and fillers such as Kirk Snyder and JLIII most likely coming off the books our current roster should be at only about 58 million and after resigning Hayes and Deke about 65mil. Which will slip us in under the Tax.

I don't understand how any of those players will come off the books just like that. The only possibility is if they get traded to a team under the cap so the Rockets get a nice TE in return which they can let expire. Kind of like what Seattle did with the Orlando trade. And Phoenix with the Seattle trade (although the same exception generated from the first trade was used).

Les is really ponied up the money here this past season and this offseason... Hire Adelman, hire new GM, Mike James trade kicker, buy 2 second rounders with money, money for Scola, now LT and we'll prob even have to just cut some guaranteed contracts.

    Thanks for the support Les!

Sura has a nonguaranteed contract with a buyout for $1 million, so that will help keep us under the LT. It seems very possible now the Rockets will just buy out the contract and save the money themselves instead of using it as a trade piece.

Thanks for the info, it seems we have to pay LT if we want to re-sign Chuck & Deke (if no more trade)

The luxury tax (both short-term and long-term concerns) is exactly why:

--Bob Sura is now more likely to be waived than traded.

--Rafer for Doleac (expiring contract) is not too far-fetched.

--Morey is desperate to unload guys like JLIII for a second rounder.

--The Rockets will likely hold off on a Rafer trade until mid-August (when they can package Justin Reed with him).

--The Rockets should look into whether they could get first rounders for Head or Snyder (but not both).

--Morey would NOT prefer to trade for Shareef, who has three years remaining at "Juwan" money.

--If Bonzi doesn't play well, the Rockets should look to trade him before his contract expires.
