So, I'm sitting at the SMU gym Sunday watching Mexico get pummeled in the Global Games tournament (yes, I was desperate for some basketball) and my friend and I get to chatting about the NBA luxury tax (in an attempt to stay awake). We basically agreed that when the next round of negotiations come around, the players union will want to try to remove or drasticaly change the luxury tax. Basically, we were railing on teams like the Warriors and Clippers who will basically get paid extra money because they continue to put bad, cheap teams on the court. So, my basic idea was to leave the luxury tax, but somehow restrict teams from getting the money if they didn't meet certain qualifications. Ideas we threw out were things like, a) not pay teams that miss the playoffs 2 years straight b) not pay any team in the bottom quarter of the league c) not pay any team under the salary cap and under .500 (we also considered giving bonues to teams under the cap that actually make the playoffs since that would theoretically be a sign of a well run organization) None of these ideas would actually work I guess. But it made for spirited discussion. So, I was wondering what kind of ideas you folks would have in regard to dealing with the luxury tax. Thoughts? --Drof PS - Hey, it's baseball season. It's hard to come up with good basketball topics everyday.
I still thing that basketball should go on the BY THE GAME system Winners make 1 mil a game. . . Losers 500K . . . Players get 50% of the purse. Tha 50% is divided up . .. by what their agents can negotiate Shaq 35% of player game take Kobe 25% the rest of the team splits 40% If you make 5% . . .you more Apt to play harder for more money and then EVERY GAME means something Rocket River
