What are yall's feelings about Luther Head's game now that we are coming up on two full seasons out of Illinois?

I mean the guy hustles, can shoot and seems to play decent one on one defense but something just is not right.

I think I see the problem though, HE IS A FREAKING DUMBASS!!!!!!!!!!!

Head has zero basketball iq, HE NEVER NEEDS TO RUN POINT. I really think if Luther can play better team defense and continue to develop his offensive game he can be a very key role player for the Rockets but with things like not getting the ball in bounds with 2 minutes left in a tight game makes me think he just does not have what it takes upstairs to be out there in crunch time (atleast touching the ball).

I am not starting this thread because of the loss tonight, I have been thinking about this for a while because Head continues to foul at bad times, get caught in no-man's land on d and make poor decisions with the ball (either a dumb move like tonight or a ball handling blunder)

thoughts? Will Head take care of these issues?

If not do we keep him for his three point shooting?

Get rid of him beause negatives outweigh the positives?

I personally am not sure what I would do but I know it's got to get better. I also know he never should run point.

I agree with most all of what you said. I mean, I love Luther's game, but Head's an airhead.

Have you heard him in interviews he is not a bright guy, his vocab is limited. Now Shane, that guy can speak and has basketball IQ so if there is a correlation between the two than you may be right about Luther not having a b-ball IQ. Shane is going to be a head coach some day, mark my words.

Head's job is to come off the bench and shoot a few 3's to keep our offense going when T-Mac is out (and Yao now. Hey! That rhymed! I'm a poet, and I didn't even know that I was a poet). Luther will do nothing else.

He's not a PG. He's a spot-up shooter. We need to stop putting the ball in his hands to make decisions.

I agree with a lot of that. I'm fine with keeping him. I'd like him to have a spot-up shooter type role off the bench until he evolves into a consistent 6th man scoring guard (still off the bench).

However, we don't really have someone better than him right now, so I'm fine him getting the minutes he's getting, and he's being forced to take on more than he should

He must be doing something right or the others behind him are doing something horribly wrong, b/c Jeff always has him in at the end of games.

I think he needs to chill out a little. I know he's kind of jerky by nature, it's just the way he moves, but he seems to be trying to do too much. He needs to stick within the limit of his game. He can shoot, and he actually can dribble decently enough to bring the ball up.

He seems to be reverting to making "rookie" mistakes again.

He's just been going through a really rough patch lately. He does turn the ball over a lot, but give him a break. He's only in his 2nd season, and he's not a true PG, but JVG forces him to play point when everyone knows he can't.

As much as I love him, I don't think he has a lot of basketball IQ, or at least not yet. The problem is when he tries to think instead of shoot, he ends up with a turnover. :( Right now, he needs to be a catch-and-shoot guy. That's all. No dribbling, no passing, no driving to the basket. He can work on the rest of his game later, but we need him to be a pure shooter this season.

His turnover when he was inbounding the ball wasn't completely his fault. The Cavs had good defense, and it's hard to see when you're only 6'3" and inbounding from the baseline.

You have to admit, though, he's not lacking in the effort category. At the last game against Dallas, he was the first one out of the locker room during halftime practicing his shots. I love guys like that who keep trying no matter how much they might suck. :) Let's just hope that Luther and the rest of the Rockets get out of their slump, say, by next game.

Frankly, Head frustrates me more than Rafer. Rafer misses wide open shots, and shoots way too quick. Head seems to turn it over if he takes more than 3 dribbles, and he turns it over way too often in crucial situations. I can not seem him handling the ball in the playoffs and I'm afraid of what will happen if he does. Do we win in spite of him or will he blow a series with a stupid TO?

He's going through a bad sophmore slump right now. Trying too hard I think.

Head's time should be given to V-span and Snyder. His only function is to shoot 3s on which I think Novak can do a better job. JVG always judges and categrize people. Juwan and Novak are decent rebounder, although not as good hayes in terms of offensive boards. But they are good in defensive board. Yao with Novak or Howard would be great because they know how to pass the ball smartly. Hayes should not play more than 8 minutes in any games. So does Head.

Anyway Head will cause bigger damage to us in the playoff as he does't have any bball IQ. Bball IQ and confidence are the things you can find through players' eyes.

Some of his decision are like not even on the level of Clarence Weatherspoon, and we all thought Spoon was as low as u can get. I just cringe whenever luther
passes or runs like 15 seconds of the clock with his nice behind the back and though the leg dribbles only to pass it back to a guarded teammate, which defeats the whole purpose of finding the open man.

He's like hey look at me i can ball, and then passes to rafer with 3 seconds left on shotclock.

Being quiet does not mean you are dumb or have a low basketball IQ. You guys are idiots.

Being loud and obnoxious on a sports forum site does not mean you're an idiot, either, Einstein.
