    LUTHER HEAD, G, HOUSTON
    [IMG]

    9.8 PPG, 2.3 APG, .490 3PT
    Last week: unranked
With Tracy McGrady still bothered by a bad back, Luther Head has started the last five games for the Rockets. Head led Houston with 28 points in Dallas on Tuesday and he recorded his first double-double against the Suns the following night. For the week he shot 15-29 from beyond the arc and 5-21 inside it.

Atta boy luther... show em what you got :D

Only 6th? Dam!!! Head should get extra credit for being able to excel in the league's worst offensive system. Oh well, this is arguably the only thing going well for the Rox.

LOL, the irony of the situation for Luther Head. He wants to play for a winning team, but if the Rockets were winning, JVG wouldn't play rookies. Now, Head can play starter minutes, but the team stinks.

Man, he should stay planted on the three point line infront of Yao. So when they double team. BINGO. THREE!

Only 5-21 last week inside the arc?! WOW!

head is like all the strengths of Francis and Mobley (lite) with none of their baggage. He's athletic, but not as athletic as Francis, he's a good shooter, probably as good as mobley, and he can get to the basket, but not as well as Francis or Mobley.

Yet, he doesn't hog, take ill-adviced shots, or dribble too much.

Agreed. I'll just add that he probably isn't as good a shooter off the dribble as either Francis or Mobley......and that he's probably a slightly better defender than Francis, but nowhere near Mobley in that respect...

I knew he was a great 3-point shooter and not a good finisher, but I didn't know he was THAT bad. 5-21? A little bit like Mike Dickerson when he played here.

I think he'll adjust though. Hopefully he can take the starting spot from Rafer, but his ball-handling and finishing really need improvement.

He's definitely a better finisher than that. I think, at this point, the fact that he seems to be able to get there at will sometimes is very encouraging.

This is just one of the many things to look forward too. It will be very interesting to see how Head does with Tracy back. I really think he can play the same exact role he's been playing, just a little more limited since Tracy will be touching the ball more. He'll also get more wide open threes with Tracy back in the lineup.

I think they could be very good offensively with Yao, Tracy and Head on the court at the same time.

    #6???

Obviously NBA.com doesn't love Head as much as I do.

Don't knock Luther's 5 for 21. That'll soon be better than our record.

Well put. And he's only a rookie who's played 14 games!

Not a good finisher? He's good enough for me. He finishes OK but lacks a mid-range game. That's something he will need to work on over the summer. When Tracy returns, his 2 pt FG% should improve since improve since he'll be more wide open.

With Rafer and Tracy out, who on the team handles the ball better than Luther? I think his handles are just fine.

    ouch!

at least tomorrows game against the hawks will feature a great matchup (head vs. stoudamire), and we will be fighting to stay the 3rd worst team.

how the season has changed... :(

Anytime Head is in question, there should be no dispute as to who's #1.

If Van Gundy keeps him in the starting lineup and he gets around the same amount of minutes, I think his offensive numbers will go up to the mid teens.

It seems so far like I'm wrong about Head. Thank God.

He's only hitting 30% of his 2-pointers this season! 14 makes in 47 attempts. He gets blocked a lot on layup attempts too, I don't call that being a good finisher.

Just because he handles the ball better than David Wesley, Derek Anderson, and Jon Barry doesn't mean he's a good ball handler. He still has a 1.6 Assist/TO ratio.

I like Luther a lot, but lets not over-hype him. I'm glad we drafted him, and I think he's progressing nicely so far. I really like his quickness, defensive anticipation, and his quick hands. And I want to see him dunk :D
