Good music, delivery, and content. A very rare combination in today's hip hop music. Chicago is filled with them. If you like Lupe, check out Wale for similar results

I actually go to school in DC and Wale had a concert at my school right before November. Great rapper, but I feel like his stuff is all the same...

I also like J. Cole, Cudi. Don't really like Drake. I feel like he's overhyped, and a suburban version of Lil Wayne. Too much of the same.

That's probably why Wale hasn't made it 'big' yet. His style is not diverse enough. But the potential and skills are there. He's got a song featuring Gaga. J. Cole pretty much outdid Wale on his own joint off of Attention Deficit.

Not a fan of Cudi, but maybe it's because I heard his mainstream stuff first. I'll keep listening though. Slim pickings nowadays.

Drake...I like him. Very diverse and the lyrics are better than most in mainstream. As a matter of fact, I strongly believe Drake is a better lyricist than Lil Wayne. Drake just knows how to put his music together, and that is great considering his skillset is diverse

I love Lupe simply because of his lyrics. Lupe, MF Doom, Sha Stimuli, Joe Budden... that's the good stuff.

Drake, Wayne? They need to learn some new words other than "p***y" and "money"

Thank u! I give Drake one more album and before you know it he'll become as lyrically lazy as Wayne.

    QFT!
    Are we brothers???

U just said my thoughts over the past year or so. Drake's overrated imho,
Loving J.Cole right now, Cudi, Lupe and I have to support Wale cos thats my Nigerian dude. I know J.Cole took him out in A.D but I feel J. Cole (much like Eminem) would destroy a number of other rappers on their own ish.

I actually think Wale is drastically overrated. Its funny cuz I like his content, beat selection and his hooks but his delivery/lyrics come off as sloppy to me sometimes. Like there are times when he tries TOO hard to be deep and as a result the lyrics don't flow together at all. (Kinda like the RZA, lol) I actually was at Best Buy in December and had to decide between Wale and Clipse and I chose Wale thinking I would support the new guy. I ending up being disappointed.

*Wale getting murdered by J.Cole on that one song doesnt help either.

Drake is a very talented dude, but I am afraid that his frequent collaborators (Weezy, Baby, Young Money) are going to make him lazy both content wise and lyrically. The original So Far Gone mixtape was very balanced with songs about self-doubt, groupie girls, relationship girls, fame, pressure to succeed, etc. The EP version being sold in stores only features original songs so a lot of the songs he made using other artists beats/uncleared samples were taken out. His lyrics aren't super complicated, but he drops some introspective stuff from time to time.

If Drake reaches outside of his camp for collaboration on his album I think the competition will force him to step his game up and we'll get some great music. He really knows how to put songs together. If he's trading p***y metaphors with Weezy and Nicki Minaj then the album will be hot for 2010 and get radio play but ultimately it will be forgettable.

J.Cole is a MONSTER. Haven't heard anything less than a 9/10 from him.

Lupe is also dope but I wish we'd get to hear new music from him more often.

Cudi is cool too. His music is different than what I normally listen to but I respect his creativity and his willingness to take risks and just be honest.

I agree about YM bringing down Drake. He's way too talented to be hanging around Lil Wayne and all the other wack artists in YM (especially Nicki Minaj, that b**** is so annoying).

    J. Cole is a nice project coming out of VA. So far his music has nothing less than great. I just hope a young rapper like him can keep it going and not fall off like Bleek, Mase or heck Lil Wayne.

Wale reminds me of Kanye soooooo much. Not that that's bad, Ye's first two album were great and must listens but than he started using autotune (and liquor, apparently too much  )..

Drake put out some great mixtapes. He did commercialize his content, but that may not be his fault (I would sell out too haha).

Even with the lyrics commercialized, he's one of the few rappers out there that attempts to keep a story/theme of a song. I listen to his lyrics, and I can see the story. I listen to Lil Wayne's lyrics, all I see is images of a rim, then a girl, then a martian. I see stories in motion when I listen to Drake, and I see a slideshow of the same old when I listen to Wayne.

I do agree with the posters on here saying Young Money is bad for Drake. But when $$$ gets thrown at them, don't blame them for taking it.

Drake and Cudi got drafted to the mainstream. Their skills that made them popular will not fly on mainstream radio.

It doesn't look like Wale and Lupe will change for the radio. Which is good for us. Hopefully, Wale continues to improve the way Lupe did and stick with the sound we like.

Eminem's commercial stuff is NOWHERE near what he is capable of. He is one of the greatest lyricist in the game. His patterns are ridiculous, too. Yet his best selling single is probably "The Real Slim Shady..."

Umm no. I should have been specific in stating that song is one of the reasons I'm underwhelmed by him and think he's wack because the song is lame in my opinion.

Besides, great for him he's reppin Houston, if I supported everyone that repped Houston then I'd have a whole lot of crappy rappers I'd be listening to. I try not to make reppin Houston a reason to like a rapper.

Agree w/ all y'all have said bout Drake and YM.

I thought J Cole was from Fayetteville NC and not VA? He always mentions the Ville in every song.

Thanks for catching that  . It feels like he's been around for years with the 3 mixtapes that I forgot he still hasn't dropped his album yet.
I expect it to sell like hotcakes and be top of the pops for all the young teens and other YM lovers out there but I don't expect a lyrical masterpiece.
Hopefully he its not all collabos with the other wack YM artists.
