This HR streak is really amazing - I hope it is still there somewhat when he joins the big leagues next week or thereabout. 29 HRs and counting for Scotty now. I wish his batting average is higher but 0.287 is not bad either. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/...d=milb&t=g_wra&gid=2005_08_22_albaaa_rreaaa_1 Though his Ks are high (90), he has done fairly well/okay with a .360 OB%, 24 2Bs, 4 3Bs, 38 walks and a healthy .608 Slugging (giving him an OPS of .960).
Something tells me that if the Astros brass felt he could contribute on this level, he'd be up here already. Again, I forget that Purpura is fat.
I think they are just trying to build his confidence because they want him to stick the next time they bring him up.
That's not a bad theory. Not to mention the Express are in a battle with Oklahoma for the top spot in their division.
i think they have an appointment for him to hit Fantastic Sam's first before he can move up to the next level.
Actually a .287 avg is pretty good because I thought I heard he was at around .230 after being down their for a month. So it sounds like he's raised it up a lot.
I don't think anyone on the roster is performing badly enough to be sent down right now, so I don't see how you bring up Luke Scott. That said, I'd like to see him up before Sept 1st in case he really has learned something and could help us in the playoffs. I guess the ideal would be for someone minor (Bruntlett, Viz) to have a minor injury that puts them on the 15 day DL. It lets us see Scott without having to drop anyone for the playoffs just yet.
Once again... isn't Scott on the 40 man roster??? (since he started the year up here, I'm assuming he is). Thus, he wouldn't have to be here before September to be playoff eligible, right? Also... you don't have to send down a position player. I don't see Mike Burns pitching much unless its a blowout game (either winning or losing). Harville can pick up that slack.
I heard two of their better players, Coolbaugh and Conrad (?), recently got injured. So, I'm thinking they need his help badly at Round Rock and the Astros are pretty content with our OF situation recently with Burke playing better, Palmeiro having a career year, Lane hitting homers on a daily basis, and Taveras, need I say more. He probably isn't that much of an improvement other than the power ball, so we can probably wait a week more to see him.
I thought you had to be on the 25-man roster or on the DL as of September 1 to be eligible for the playoffs? You have to be on the 40-man roster to be eligible to be called up during September, but I thought you wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs. I could be wrong about all of this though.
This is how I understand it too...maybe we can send Burns down and Bring Scott up at the end of August....like the LAST day. DD
We humbly request that you cease all haircut references. Your seeming obsession with this topic is a little discomforting. Regards, Humanity
Luke just hit a 3 run homer to give to express 4-3 lead. That his 31st. He easily could have hit 40 homers this season if he would have started the season in RR and had a somewhat decent first month which he was horrible. I still can't believe the Astros haven't called him up and send than Mike Burns. That guy pitches once a week and he sucks when he does that.
