Clippers reportedly will sign Vin Baker

    Staff, news-service reports

HOUSTON – The Clippers, trying to fortify their roster for what they hope is a successful playoff push, are expected to sign veteran forward Vin Baker to a contract.

Baker, 34, has not played this season but has been in Houston working out under the direction of former NBA coach John Lucas.

Baker appeared in 27 games last season with New York and Houston and averaged 1.3 points.

He is scheduled to meet the Clippers for practice Monday in Dallas.

The Clippers play Tuesday against the Mavericks.

Baker enjoyed a four-year stretch from 1994-95 through 1997-98, when he was a three-time All-Star with the Milwaukee Bucks, and an All-Star pick in 1997-98, after being traded to the Seattle SuperSonics.

Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy was the Bucks' coach when Baker made the All-Star team in 1995 and 1996.

Baker has career averages of 15.1 points and 7.5 rebounds in 783 games over 12 seasons.

The Clippers are looking for Baker to provide depth at power forward.
