Could he be a legit ROY candidate? This guy is legit and just keeps getting better. I know I am not telling anything new to people on this board but his numbers just keep getting better and better. Now he is even getting real attention from the national media as a top rookie...not just top 10 but number 1.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/rookies/rankings

The guy is an energy player that is also a key player on both ends of the court.

As a starter he is averaging almost 12 pts 59 fg% 6.5 rebs in 26 mins a game.

Since Yao has gone out he has upped his scoring to 14.4 pts and 62.7 fg%

He is doing all of this on a team that is challenging for the top spot in the western conference and setting records as I type.

Where would this team be with out Luis Scola (or any of the key contributors for that matter). I still think ROY is Kevin Durrent's but with every passing game Luis is taking a bigger and bigger piece of the trophy from him.

    THANK YOU SPURS!

Since the Rockets put Luis in the starting lineup as a PF, they are 19-0....

He is ABSOLUTELY the key to this team being where they are...adding another skilled energy player into the mix made all the difference in the world.

I love Chuck Hayes, but he is not a threat on offense, when Yao was in, we had a starting 5 that were all capable offensive players....

    Luis, is the shiznitz.

T-Mac was getting love for MVP by some guy sitting in for Skip Bayless on First and Ten saying how important he is to this team with a much better record than the Cavs. He also said we would lose in the first round again.(so screw him) I wish he also would have talked about how Kobe now has plenty of talent around him; an all-star in Gasol and a near one in Odom.

    any who GO ROCKETS!!!

Scola is a former gold medal winner, champion, mvp and he is in the prime of his career. He is the most polished rookie and he helps his team win more than anyone else. He isn't as talented as Durant though, unfortunately they always give it to the most talented/athletic player who they think will be the best.

When Amare won it, i thought yao played better and when lebron won it, i thought melo had a better year. They always look into the future, more than likely, in six years Durant will just be reaching his peak and Scola will be dropping off.

Chuck is a great energy player that is skilled on the defensive end but not skilled on the offensive end. Sounds like the definition of a very good bench player but sounds like a liability as a starter...which he is.

Scola is the definition of a highly skilled offensive and defensive player plus he brings all of the intangibles that a high energy player like Chuck brings to the table.

Luis is everything that was advertised and more.

Durant is like the chosen one even before this season started. If we stand on top of the western conference or Scola has some monster games stat wise, I think Scola will most likely be a Co-ROY.

A lot of people say that JVG didn't have enough talent to win big. But the only meaningful talent upgrade this year is Scola (and Landry to a lesser degree). But boy what a difference this upgrade is making. He is definitely a legit ROY candidate. Who would have thought we could be steamrolling over people even without Yao.

Durant is dominating the ball on a crappy team. Scola is contributing efficiently on a winning team.

The other thing to remember about Durant is that he is a high volume shooter but at this stage of his career he is anything but efficient and has no clue how to play defense.

Yep, Durant can't do what Scola is doing...

but Scola can't do what Durant is doing either, Durant will win it. Scola's numbers just don't compare to his right now.

Watch how important Scola is as a passer, he is the best on the team at getting players open shots on the perimeter.

When Scola gets the ball at the FT line and steps towards the basket, the defense collapses and Scola makes a pinpoint pass to the wing for a WIDE open 3....

Scola gets his teamates easier shots than anyone on the team....on the perimeter, shots where the defense is not even close and can't close out.

Scola is the main reason this team is rolling.

    Scola is good too...

I'm just assuming you accidentily put Scola where you meant to put Tracy McGrady's name. ;)

Not at all...Tmac gets guys great shots at the baseline, Scola, Landry etc...but when Scola is on the move in the paint, he is the BEST at recognizing who is open and getting them the ball at the right time where the defense can't recover.

    THE BEST !

    Wow, agree to disagree?

It is one of his strong points though, i think recently it has become a bigger part of the offense. I think tmac noticed it earlier in the year because he was practically the only person he trusted to create shots other than Yao. I think the coaching staff picked it up too because it is becoming a staple in the offense, especially when tmac's off the court.

Just like Manu Gonibili, Scola plays hard and he plays smart. He is hard-nosed, tough but at the same time he is skillful. His footwork is excellent.

Rox absolutely stole him from Spurs. I don't know what Pop was thinking. He traded Scola for VSpan! :D

Finally, ESPN realized Rockets players should be praised in an winning streak. T-mac, Landry then Scola. If they keep on winning, Rafer and Shane will be the next.

    Sure, we can disagree...

    :D

Tmac is awesome and creates so much, but I am talking about shots on the perimeter.....and the timing of the pass etc...

Anyway...Scola is infectious....and his play has elevated everyone else....got to love him.

no matter how good you're guards are at finding people for perimenter shots (tmac's one of the best in the game at it) it is more beneficial to the team's efficiency to have bigs getting guys perimeter shots (means there are more guys to knock them down) and guards creating paint opportunities for bigs.

The spacing is always going to be better when Scola creates perimeter shots because someone has to leave a perimeter guy to stop him. When tracy drives in someone leaves a post player to stop him. See what I mean?

That is exactly my point.....Scola creates a better shot, and I agree with your analysis of why that is....
