Any one have thoughts on him? He is probably the best power forward in the world not playing in the NBA. The spurs have his contract but have been thinking of moving him. He is by no means a finished product or a star, but he could definately step in and log major minutes at the 4. Seems to be a VG type player. Only weakness is can't play the 3 or the 5 but at this point that isn't a big deal. If supposed trade of Juwon Howard happens and we get no bigman back we will have a starting 4 of Chuck Hayes or Shane Battier, who isn't even a 4.

sorry that was a bad spelling of Chuck Hayes, its late...

Luis Scola is an Argentine PF who plays for Tau Ceramica in Europe.

he was drafted in the second round in 2002 by the Spurs and they still own his draft rights. He was the all euro first team (top PF in europe) averages around 15 points 6 boards a night. Won a gold medal in 2004 with Argentina. Solid post player who will contribute in our rotation especially with Chuck Hayes as our first backup at the 4.

Ok two problems. First we are trying to win it now or at least the front office and baldy say so. Second, Spurs is really good at evaluating talents. I dont feel good picking up their trash, remember Ward?

The Spurs are asking for a 1st round draft choice for the guy. This is completely unreasonable and they know it. His agent has accused the Spurs of holding him hostage. Scola wants to play in the NBA this season but it doesn't look likely at this time.

nah scola is about as good as gold for a Euro player. He has averaged 14 points a game over the last 3 years in Europe, San Antonio just has right now too many players at the 4 spot. Duncan, Horry, and Oberto. THey were gonna bring SCola over last year but his buyout made it tough so they got Oberto. IT would probably take a S&T with our TE but he would at least take over for Hayes as the first backup to the 4. and thats at the least.

Even if they outplay him? Like i like me some Chuckie Hayes but at 6'6 he just is going to be a liability on both ends of the floor if he gets more than about 20 minutes a night.

Sounds like a Chuck Hayes fan rather than a Rockets fan. I understand fondness for certain players, but that should be secondary to the overall good of the team.

You are mistaking me for a Scola fan. My point is that I would prefer the better player, whomever that may be, but this decision belongs to JVG -- as long as he is coach.

This is exactly 1 year ago i started pining for Scola to come here, we got him for ALOT less than i was willing to give up. Here is to Scola and me finally predicting something WAY in advance (notice the date is 2006) I even had Juwon howard traded away too...

damn the team better hire me fast. (although i missed the aaron brooks pick)

    :D :D :D

Very nice....Scola brings the fire and a scoring mentality we needed from the 4 spot....I hope he can get over here and contribute right away.
