Way to go 790! Nice that they got some information out there. That said, I've been disappointed with how little they cover the Astros outside of pre-game, games, and post-game. Thinking it is far enough away from draft and training camp to get some Astros coverage, I turned it on during drive in to hear them talk about the game and all they talked about how they were going to watch House of Cards and the amount that ESPN is not talking about the Astros game last night. I found it ironic as they mentioned Judge, Harper, Trout, Spacey, and Tiger Woods more than they mentioned a single Astro during my 35 minute drive into work. Back to podcasts and music. I apologize if 790 gave the greatest coverage on the Astros while I was stopped getting a cup of coffee.
These days I really can't tell what's an injury and whats an "injury" Morton has only thrown 130 innings twice in his career, and he topped out at 171 which was 6 years ago. He was gonna have to miss some starts this year one way or the other.
Read on rotoworld that McHugh threw off a mound on May 25th. That was all they said. Nothing about how he felt afterwards or an update on possible return. Anyone else have any info on McHugh?
Good point and Luhnow actually mentioned that when he saw Morton the other night he told them that this was a blessing in disguise. That he hasn't thrown a lot of innings for a good number of yrs, and more then likely they'd have to shut him down at some point. They mentioned on Sunday that they have LMJ on a 100 pitch count (give or take).
Luhnow said on the radio this morning that Morton told him he was instructed by the doctor to have 10 days of "no throw". Went on to say that when pitchers have 10 days of "no throw," that typically means they're going to miss at least 3 weeks. He also said that these lat strains injuries often end up in pitchers missing 3-4 months. He didn't think that Morton had "that" significant of an injury, but he thought he'd be out for 3 weeks at a minimum. Anyway, I was more concerned after hearing Luhnow's comments. Think we really need to get a legitimate third starter who can chew up innings.
I was in the car for about 30 minutes around 7 and my entire drive was Astros talk. I was pleasantly surprised. During a commercial, I switched over to 610 and they were predictably discussing who should start between Savage/Weeden. Such a joke. Back to the thread topic, three weeks is much better than some of the initial estimates I saw.
Three weeks wouldn't be bad at all, but like Luhnow said, lat injuries can very easily wind up being a 3-4 month ordeal. Just look at Syndegaard earlier this season. I already believed that they would make a trade for a big time pitcher like Cole, Gray or Archer, but now I feel more confident than ever about them making a trade for a pitcher of that caliber.
Agreed. Keuchel and Morton have have happened almost like they were planned... When McHugh or Morton gets back does Lance suddenly find himself on the 10-day DL?
Just to clarify, what he actually said was that Morton told him he was a "no throw" for a week and that whenever a pitcher goes a week without throwing, the recovery time is three weeks, MINIMUM. He gave no other timetable for Morton's return. And he openly discussed their willingness to add externally.
If the Astros are selectively resting, I can't imagine many here would question it, because it's the only logical thing to do. Whether we win 90 or 115 it really won't make any difference, the important thing is having a team that is healthy and as rested as realistically possible. If we have to give away a few to make that happen so be it. I was OK with us risking running Jankowksi out there to try and keep our pen fresh yesterday. We can afford to risk giving a few away in the interest of prudence (although we went ahead and won it anyhow LOL)
I don't think selective rest is the reason here. It seemed very unplanned, especially with Peacock just replacing Fiers and then having to inject Fiers back into the rotation. And if they were going to do selective rest, I'd think prefer to do when you have McHugh back rather than now, when you have an overused bullpen as-is due to so many starters having issues.
