The Rockets are absolutely looking to compete this season you are giving up after 3 games. Dear Lord man.

This team just won 41 games with a bunch of youngsters and with little changing in the roster besides internal development. There is no excuse to be sub
    500 anymore.
But I still don't want Butler. I might consider him right before the trade deadline if something horrible happens with Amen's progression and he doesn't make steps towards improving upon his rookie year. Then I'd consider getting Butler. Because getting Butler now just increases the log jam at the wing position even more because Butler is going to command a lot more minutes than Brooks. And it isn't like Butler is a floor spacer either. Brooks and Butler are similar level 3 pt threats.

The 3 games have nothing to do with anything, at no point did i think the rockets were competing for a conference finals/finals this season. If you are giving up assets for someone in his mid-late 30s, you are doing it with the goal of winning a title. If you could get him for just our trash (brooks, jeff, landale) and no draft capital and no young guys, fine but i'm not giving up ANYTHING of value for someone THAT old/injured/declining.

Too much for me that if I'm honest. As much as I wouldn't mind having Jimmy Buckets on the squad, we'd be giving up too much of our injury insurance/depth on that one imo.

Butler is washed or close to it.

He's going to have nice games every now and then but no way I would trade ANY of our young players for him. It might make us better, for sure, replacing Butler with Brooks minutes makes us better 100% but it's not making us a legit contender. It's just not. So it's not worth the risk of trading some young guy away then find out you traded away SGA like the Clippers did.

If we get him for basically nothing. Sure.

Hard pass. It is several years too late for a return to Tomball.

I’ll wait till mid season at which point it will be very clear who’s not staying from the core. Those are the kind of assets I’d prefer to trade.

However I want a 3/4. We have plenty of prospects and Fred in the backcourt. Whoever replaces Brooks has to guard the best wings in the NBA every night. They have to be better than Amen/Jabari/Tari for two years. I don’t think Butler can do that now.

I really don't see a trade for a player that makes sense for the Rockets right now, outside of superstars that just aren't available.

About the only moves I'd make would be to move Brooks and Tate with draft picks being the main return - any contracts attached have to be expiring or very tradable.

Brooks because he's part of a logjam at the 3 spot with Tari, Cam and Amen all needing more minutes.

Tate is also part of that logjam and an expiring contract that I cannot see resigning in the offseason, not to sit on the bench and play garbage minutes - he can help the right team. Rather get something for him than nothing ....

Himmy would be a low hanging fruit of a name for couple teams......a funny guy that had some success with the Heat but actually was not that good with the Wolves.

Him and Paul George, those 2 can be interchanged at times. Both with different strengths and weaknesses.

    I would prefer Jerami Grant

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/g/grantje01.html

Why not both? Use Sengun to get Butler and others (Jabari) to get Grant.

    VanVleet...............Reed Sheppard / Amen
Jalen Green.........Cam Whitmore / Van Vleet / Amen
Jimmy Butler.......Tari Eason / Cam Whitmore / Jerami Grant / Amen
Jerami Grant....... Tari Eason / Jimmy Butler / Amen
    Steven Adams.....Jock Landale / Amen

Trading for Butler or KD in any kind of way would be a mistake. I wouldn't want these 36yo players on this team unless it was on a very team friendly deal signed in the off-season. Might as well be like Jeff Green contract at that point.

I'd much rather make a deal with the devil than trading for any players past their primes. That devil being Danny Ainge and the Jazz for Lauri Markkanen. I'd originally wanted to do this instead of giving back BKN's picks because I think waiting for the Suns to implode could be a bad gamble.
