I haven't been able to see any of the preseason games, so I was wondering if any of our plethora of PF's have shown anything posting up. I already know D-Mo has a low post game, so I'm not as interested about him. I'm most interested in Patrick Patterson. I know I had heard that he had been working on post-up moves over the summer. It would be nice if we could get some baskets from posting up to give the guards a break.
2Pat's been inconsistent. I wouldn't depend on him for low-post scoring. We might have to run high pick and rolls every single time down the floor.
Don't be Serious in Pre-Season. You will see Jeremy Lin Attacks the basket and Scores well with a lot of Assist.
Pat looks pretty good on the post to me. Getting deep position on occasion, made simple strong moves and for jump hooks, etc. Lin was good at zipping entry passes into Pat.
i didn't love any of those guys posting up so far. 2pat and Donatas do have some moves, but the success rate overall seems lowish so far. Let them keep trying a couple a game, for development purposes. But this team will rely on cuts, spot ups, PnR, transition and pure effort as its bread and butter.
That's kind of promising. Wish I could watch the dang games... PPat still has a ways to go to get to Landry level though, I assume.
Thanks for the analysis. You've really added a lot to this board since you've been active on it, FYI. It's cool that you and Carl Herrera, my 2 favorite posters, both responded to my inquiry.
Yep. Maybe McHale in his ear has him putting the ball up quick instead of on the floor first, reminiscent of McHale's play. Seems like Pat isn't holding on to the ball as long, giving his defender a chance to set, like he used to. Also, Omer "strong as a ox" (CD) Asik is a bull underneath the rim. Or I guess an ox. Or...whatever. Terrence Jones hasn't been showing off a ton of back to the basket stuff, but has good timing getting his shot off underneath the rim (up fakes and using his body for separation), something Pat struggled with his first two seasons.
Patterson had a few good low post scoring. I think he has the skills, just needs to be more confident and not rush it. Donuts is supposed to be good. But he hasn't done anything other than fast break points. All the other guys don't have a back to the basket game at all.
he's shown quite a few moves this preseason. To me, his low post moves and footwork has been the best part about his play. Of course, most of the actual shots didn't go in or looked unprepared, and on a few occasions he got too fancy. There were plenty of other things off the ball and on defense that worry me much more than his low post game.
sometimes I wish ppat would take a deep breath as soon he receives the entry pass and relax a little, even adjust the shoulder cut on his jersey some more..no need to rush. He's been better though just needs to remember to throw it down when he is a ft away. With his body, the worst thing that can happen is he will draw a foul or 2.
You might be surprised to hear I haven't seen any true post game from Donatas. Kevin Martin tried a few post up moves against the Mavs, oddly enough. p)
Maybe you guys are using a different definition of post game than I do, because there's no way you couldn't see his post game, he relied on it quite a bit so far. He has beautiful looking spins and fakes that he uses in post ups, that's his post game. He's not a Shaq type power post player, obviously + he's matched up against opposing centers most of the time, so it's a quickness based post up game.
This. Here's a beautiful example from the last game (at 37 seconds). <object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JpLtPPqW57g?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0&start=37"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JpLtPPqW57g?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0&start=37" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object> I also specifically remember 1 or 2 plays in transition where PPat gets down the floor quickly pining his guy in the paint and Lin finds him the ball for a quick bucket. Can't remember which game that was. After watching pre-season I think Lin and PPat are going to surprise a lot of people with their chemistry.
I agree with you ppat and Lin seem like a good pick and pop combo remind me of Stockton and Malone or a cp3 and dwest. I think the money plays will be them. I noticed that he has picked the same spots as scola fot his pops. I hoped he picked up some of his spin moves. If ppatt develops to a dwest or Scola type player that is pretty good I liked the play between asik and Lin also, overall I think he has done a good job finding his players.
Thanks for the video. Not quite Carl Landry with the iso post-up, but I liked what that shows of PPat. He may not be the focus of the offense, but I want him getting some touches each game. Never good to be totally unidimensional on offense.
Thanks for the video. They look better than I thought they would. I can't remember them missing a shot.
