I love my car, I really and truly do. But it does things to me that remind me of a wild teenager rebelling against their parents and it makes me scream (literally, at the top of my lungs!) Last night I was on my way home from school and stopped off at Taco Bell (Dong!) to get me and the Mrs. some grub. I get back in the car turn the key, step on the brake and move the gear shift into.... move the gear shift into.... W T F ?! The brake indicator light on the auto gear shift that tells the driver "step on the brake before you shift into Reverse, dumbkoff" is still lit up. I mash on the brake hard with both feet even and it finally gives way. Get back to my apartment and leave the car in a parking space that is accessible to a tow truck just in case and shift in to park to try it again. This time it won't come out. The screaming commences full force at that point. 5 years of annoyances about engine lights, Mass Air Flow sensors, stuck windows, door handles that sometimes won't open the door, peeling rubberized plastic, and all the other little quirks that go with owning this car boil over. I am a mad man. God forbid if anyone associated with VW would have walked by at that point, I probably would have beaten them to death with the screw off antenna. Thank God I got AAA a month earlier. I call and a flat bed tow truck comes (after 2 hours) and tows me to the mechanic. He had to drag the car up onto the flatbed and then at the destination, rock it off, in a rapid fire succession of accelerating and braking the truck as the little Jetta jerked and squeeled and scraped its way off the back of the truck. Get home and hit the internet. Of course. I should have known: The mechanic (who thank god I trust) will call me later to tell me what is going on. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, same on me. Never VW, Never Ever Again, you f*&kinG Nazi Bastards.
Hey at least the compressor on your air conditioner didn't go out (yet?). $3,000+ later, I haven't felt the same way about my bug as I once did. Yeah, I'm with you. Never again, VW. You had your chance. All these annoyances independently aren't too bad, but collectively, I'm sick of only opening my trunk through the backseat, prying open the gas tank door with my fingers, staring at the check engine light every day ...
Im totally shocked that Volkswagen is still in business. SHOCKED they put one of the worst overall products out there, and based on everything ive heard, read and seen, they have the worst customer service of any of the auto makers id buy a Kia or Saturn before Id buy a Volkswagen
There's something almost cultish about VW owners ...they spend tonnes of money on their cars under the dilusional belief that they are good cars. If a Chevy or a Ford cost them half as much in repairs, they'd moan about the reliability of American cars... ...but i guess vw makes cute cars...
My sister's ex had a GTI and the damn windows kept falling off track..... hilarious, he was a dick who treated my sister poorly.
I'll never buy GM again. Unfortuately, I'm in the middle of the lease and will most likely wait it out. No domestics for me thank you. I'm think of Toyota or perhaps a Euro.
Dunno, that new ford five hundred is a nice looking ride not to mention that domestics rule in the truck department. I got a Mazdaspeed Protege and my next vehicle will prolly be a ford truck: and I love my little ricer
I hear you. Unfortunately all those little annoyances i experienced over the last 4 years mean little. Apparently i have a blown gasket or a cracked head. Coolant has been leaking into my engine. The mechanic wanted $1300 dollars to fix it. It just isn't worth the trouble. So now i have the task of finding a new car. I'm just hoping my engine gives me another month otherwise i'm screwed.
Color me completely unsurprised - except for you saying that you still love your car. A lady at my last job had the new beetle. It was in the shop every freakin' month until she got rid of it.
But Pimp, I am listening to those CDs in my 350Z, so yea, I am cool like dat! Actually, took some of my Celine Dion CDs to a used CD store this past weekend - time to put that French Canadian horse out of her misery
My girlfriend has a Jetta (2000 I think) that has had this problem a lot. She had to get the brake activator switch replaed. It's a $50 thing. The ridiculous part is that she's ahd to get this thing replaced twice in the last 3 years. I think it's time to put the cow to pasture and get something Japanese.
From what I understand, thats the main problem with VWs. They have "chronic" problems that never seem to go away.
I have an 03 turbo Jetta. I haven't had any problems with it, but it's still under warranty. The car is fun as hell to drive, but I am worried about all of the problems I hear people have with Jettas.
$30 part! Yes. I thought this was gonna cost a fortune. With oil change and checking out other issues, 120 tops. whew!
