Why is the lottery so unimaginatively constructed? As I understand it, the only chance to move up is to move into the Top 3 and those chances are almost microscopic coming from #13.

Why is there no way to have a chance (a better chance) of simply improving your "lot" and moving up to 7, 9, or 11 from 13? That would certainly make it more interesting.

You could still keep a weighted system, but why not develop some kind of system that would allow for the opportunity to improve your selection position-- even if not into the promised land?

RichRocket, if you were the Hawks, the Grizzlies, the Cavs, and the likes, you would be happy with the way the lottery currently work. You don't want to be the one who (by record) should get the #5 pick but because of the lottery ends up with the #10..11..12.. or worst 13.

But... I feel your pain. [IMG]

At least w/ RichRocket's idea there'd be even less incentive to tank.

I like it Richy Rich. You should sent it in to the nba.

It is the way it is so that the worst teams don't end up with bad picks.

It keeps teams from tankin because it doesn't guarantee you the greatest pick even if you do, but it keeps from punishing the truly bad teams by guaranteeing they'll at least get a decent pick to help out.

so, you know there are only 4 balls in that hopper. It is not like there are 13 names in a hat. When you pull a teams combo who already got selected, you must redraw another combon, which likewise could have already been selected, and so on, and so on.

If they use RichRocket's idea, who wants to run the statistical projections on how many hours (if not days) it would take to settle every single spot, assuming it take 30 seconds per combo draw?

HP, they'd need to change their drawing process, of course. It may take days with the current system, but I'm pretty sure a computer could do it in -- ohh -- a millisecond.
