Lottery: do you play it? I saw the other thread on the lottery and that got me wondering: how many of you play on a regular basis? For some reason, I'll usually play only when it gets over $20 million. Normally I'll buy just $1 but sometimes will splurge to $5 when the stakes are really high. I know my chances are slim but I have a dream of moving into the Royal Oaks subdivision someday. Heck, maybe I'll even buy Cuttino's crib when he gets traded.
Royal Oaks.....Cuttino... Hmmm. From what I have learned, he lives in that neighborhood. Do you know where he lives too?
I saw his house on Sports Sunday...it looked like he lives near the golf course from what I could tell.
I play every once in a while. I haven't won even $3 in about 2 years. But it's a way to raise tax money for cash-strapped Texas. Our dear, stupid Governor and his friends aren't going to do it, raise money, that is. Meanwhile, the State is going to hell in a handbasket. If you don't believe me, pick up a major Texas newspaper and look at what is going to be slashed so that we won't become "Tax-us". Sometimes a tax increase is needed, believe it or not, more than a sound-bite for the media. I help with the occasional Lotto ticket.
the odds of winning the lotto jackpot was 1 in 16 million until they added 4 more numbers in 2000, then the odds of winning the jackpot became 1 in 26 million. now they are changing the rules yet again and the odds will raise to 1 in 45 million. this will go into effect May 7th. I am buying tickets for tonight's contest but I will not play the new game. doubling the odds against winning while charging the same price is a scam and hopefully their plan backfires.
The best odds I saw were "you are more likely to get bitten by a shark EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE OCEAN, than you are of winning the lottery" Lottery's are a joke, in my opinion. Nothing better than suckering the lower class with hopes and dreams that will never come to fruition. I won't even buy scratch off's. And their odd's are literally one million times better. good luck.
OHHHH! And my favorite Simpson's line was where Homer find's a telemarketing phone promising eternal happiness for 1 dollar. Mr. Burn's: Eternal happiness for 1 dollar? I think I'd be happier with the dollar! I STILL use this when anyone asks me to buy a lottery ticket!
What I don't get are the people that only play if it gets over a certain amount - like $3-$20 million is really not worth fooling with.
In NY we have mega millions and a decent state lotery I currently hold a ticket for both. but they are both up over 40 mill I never gu unless i see a number that I can dream about. you see. you never win, but the instant you spend a buck you pretend you are a a winner. you imagine spending the money you life the fantesy. 55mill lump sum amount 35mill afer taxes 20mill and now i imagine spending my 20 mill how long does that dream last? 20 mins an hour? if the number is high enough maybe more dreams how much did the ticket cost me?? how much did say even 20 minutes of dreaming cost me?? less than 3 minutes 3 minutes of work and its paid for. hell I could have bought 7 bucks worth and it would be break even.
I play when the clerks remind me that it is up over 20-30 mill or so, bought a $5 ticket for tonights game. DD
I'm about to go buy mine. Not really much to lose...$5. I know I'll never win, but it's always fun imagining what I'd do if I did.
