If Rockets would not make a playoffs this year, they will have an opportunity that some pessimists were waiting for for a long time. we have Yao, Brooks and Battier as FA, possible top-3 pick in a draft with a potential ture superstar and couple of franchise players, and maybe even lockout. what should we do? There are couple of ways?

    1. Quick Rebulding around Rockets young core

Let Yao Go, sign Battier as FA for a deal around vet. minimum and use him like a mentor for young guys, re-sign Brooks for something around 35|5 then draft Harrison Barnes or Perry Jones and give them a freedom to rise, maybe even with dumping Kevin Martin for young talent (Derrick Favors, for example, if Nets'll lose in Melomania) cause young swingman should become team #1 option as soon as possible. Cavs and Thunder proved us: it's working.

    So, we would have:

Barnes/Jones, Lowry, Brooks, Lee, Budinger, Hill, Patterson, some players for K-Mart as a young core and Scola, Battier and Miller as a veteran presence

Harrison or Perry will have a total freedom offensively (like Durant in OKC in his early years, or Lebron in Cavs) and after couple of lotteries we will become one of the best young teams in the League and a legimate Title Contenders in years, especially when Lakers and Celtics will be finally done.

    2. The San Antonio Trick

If Yao Ming can be healthy and productive (ending of this season will show us) and stay that way, Les and Morey could go for a Spurs trick with Duncan. Good team has a injury-plagued season, selected first overall and became an NBA Champions in just 2 years.

Add Barnes/Jones to this squad or Irving over Brooks, lockout shortened season as a strong possibility for more or less healthy Yao and strong playoff push with veteran team that can use some young supertalent firepower.

we can have a chance if we lucky. Maybe Les will be the happiest person if he can resign Yao and get young possible superstar and stay in a playoffs. But it's all about Yao health and you know how it works

    3. Superstar for Morey

Use a top-3 lottery pick in a trade for superstar talent (not such crap stars as Gerald wallace or Iguodala, true superstar), and start another run with Red Rising (It's Time of something of a kind) with team around this guy and (limited) Yao Ming and forget about Rebulding process

what should we do? (C) ;)

Follow the Wizards blue print last year. But I know for a fact, that as soon as Brooks comes back we are going to win a lot of meaning less games and end up with a low end lottery pick. We are sucking but there are alot of teams sucking and have about the same record as we do.So if we want to continue sucking and end up with a chance to win the lottery we are ging to have to make some whole sale changes starting with Scola then Brooks.

Look to make a trade for a SF who can help this season and down the line. He doesn't have to be a star player, and he would have to be humble (cheap) enough to come off the bench later on.

The Rockets have $37 million with Yao, Battier, Hayes, and Jeffries coming off the books.

    Scout picks.
    Sign Perkins.
Sign Landry to the full MLE.
    Sign Carney to the LLE.

    Perkins / Miller / Hill
    Scola / Landry
    Carney / draft picks
    Martin / Budinger / Lee
    Brooks / Smith / Lowry

We should move one of Taylor, or Lee for a SF this season.

Unless Yao is willing to sign for less than the MLE, the Rockets needs to move as far away from Yao as possible, the Yao Ming "What if" era is over.

A lot of people say the season is early, not me. 3-10 so far. Last year it took 50 wins just to make the playoffs. they would have to go 47-22 the rest of the year just to make the playoffs. it aint going to happen. Quit playing Battier, Yao, Jeffries, etc. just may the young guys. Tank the rest of the season. We have done it before. No reason to try and win 42 games again, and get another player like Patterson. We need a low lottery pick. If we have to trade 3 number 1 picks to get a really good college player. We have to many good players, we need a great player. One we can keep, not like trying to get Melo for 3 months, then have him sign with N.Y. Look past this year, no more Yao, Battier, Jeffries. If we keep trying to put put a average team on court, we will be like the TEXANS.

Not that I am suggesting tanking, but the Rockets have more balls and a higher chance at a top 3 pick if both teams have lower records.

Even if the Rockets finish with the 7th worst record and the Knicks finish with the 12th worst record, the Knicks could land a top 3 pick and the Rockets would still swap picks with them.

Correction: Unless the Knicks receive the first pick.

I would offer Yao 7 million a year max. I think he still can be a good role player who can give you 15-7 a night.Anything more then that is overpaying.

The Rockets should trade Scola, Lowry, and Budinger for Anthony, and Lawson.

    Perkins / Miller
    Landry / Hill / Hayes
Anthony / One of the lottery SF's (Jones, or Barnes)
    Martin / Lee / Taylor
    Brooks / Lawson / Smith

I would be pissed if we land a top 3 pick and Morey pulls a Battier-Gay on us, very very pissed!
