Early in season one somebody is drowning in the ocean. Charlie runs to Jack and asks him to save her. Jack ends up saving Boone and the chick drowns. Charlie meanwhile is on the beach and says "I can't swim, I can't swim". The third season though, Charlie is able to swim to the underwater bunker and claims to have been on his high school swim team (I think). Am I missing something obvious? id have to watch season one to know what he said exactly. i do know that he lied in season three when he volunteered to go to the underwater hatch. he said he could hold his breathe for like 3 minutes, but later implied that he made it all up.
I think that's right. He had a fear of water (flashback of kiddie Charlie at the pool with his dad), but manned up because it would save Claire. Good bloke.
He lied about being on the swimteam - he's actually a poor swimmer, but he knew "it was his destiny". Polar bear - No reason to be caught up on this considering the infinite amount of bizarre **** that happens on the island. Its a weird island. pilot - I have no idea what pilot you are talking about black smoke - no answers regarding what it is, but it seems to be able to manipulate people. only certain people have seen it the large animal - is the black smoke.
The polar bears were part of the research going on in the island - the cages that the others use to hold the losties were for the animals.
Who killed the pilot ( the pilot of the plane they found in one of the first episodes)- i think it was either one of the polar bears, or another animal like a lion or something, because his body was hanging up in the tree. I honestly think they had no idea where they were going with the story early on and it made is seem like the "monster" ate him, but then the writing got better and the whole "monster" is gone, unless the black smoke is the monster. I can't wait for the season to start up again. I work in the oil fields and we watch a lot of movies when we get off our shifts, and i have season 1&2 on DVD, and Season 3 on my macbook from itunes, and every single person that borrows my DVD's gets completely hooked. I've turned on about 10 people to this show who had never seen it.
If he was hanging from a tree you would expect it to be a Leopard(lions do not take their prey in a tree, leopards do). We also heard Hyenas, so there are probably more animals besides the polar bear.
i just recently watched all 3 seasons. and i havent read any of the boards to see all the theories of what this stuff is. but in my opinion what the black smoke is would be nano-particles. the same stuff the book prey is about. just my guess though.
I believe that black smoke is the monster. The pilot was pulled out of the **** pit and the only other time we see him is when he is broken, bloody, and dead hanging in a tree. In season three, smokey did something very similar with Eko. Smokey picked up and threw Eko around until he was finally broken.
It was a fear of the water. I think he could actually swim, but it freaked him out . Wasn't he still all messed up on H then as well?
