I used to have a nice DKNY Tie that I would wear when I needed to dress up. My only dress shirt is Royal Blue (see bottom). Well the Tie fell in the clothes basket and I accidentally washed it. I need to replace it, but I am so terrible at this that I am wondering what kind of ties look good with Royal Blue shirts. Royal Blue
Any tie would work. Why don't you go to TJ MAXX or Marshalls and bring a girl along with you to help. You can get a name brand tie there for about 5 bucks. Girls love picking crap out.
Wear the shirt, go to your department store of choice and ask them "say, I'm looking for a tie that could go well with this here shirt - got any ideas?". They'll help ya. And don't spend a ton on ties dude. I'm scared to ask how much you spent for the DKNY tie that nobody would probably know was a DKNY tie (unless it actually said "DKNY" on the front which would kinda be tacky).
I used to have to wear a lot of ties for court appearances, client meetings, etc. I'll still buy an occasional tie here and there. I think I have a fairly good feel for quality, look, mens fashion on the tie thing. The best ties -- by a wide margin -- are those made by Ike Behar. You can roll into a Saks or Nordstroms and spend 80 to 100 for one of those. Don't. I pick mine up at Off 5th, a high end marshalls basically. It carries the overstock for Sak's 5th. The ties will run you 30-40. Located off 59South, around the kirkwood exit -- where the fountains strip center is. If you're buying DNKY ties - I suspect you're already in that range. Ike Behar ties are better designed, more fashionable, professional looking, chicks tend to like them --- and most importantly -- they tie very well. You don't wind up with a banana peel, 80's looking, small knot on the top. Even a moron like me can make one of those ties tie well, straight out of a GQ mag.
I agree with the pink suggestion. I also agree with the fact that you should probably buy a few more dress shirts...and ties.
For dress shirts, I would strongly recommend the Brooks Brothers No Iron shirts. They are awesome and should save you a ton in dry cleaning bills.
To be honest, I'm not diggin that Royal Blue color.. Pretty bland if you ask me. I agree with above that you should start by expanding your closet.
Red power tie. Would be better if the shirt was a little darker, but that should still be workable. You will project confidence.
